Biathlon - Fourcade takes mass start win in Oberhof

Martin Fourcade strengthened his grip at the top of the World Cup standings with victory in the 12.5km mass start race in Oberhof on Sunday.

The Frenchman had to settle for third in both the sprint and pursuit races in Germany earlier in the weekend as Norway’s Emil Hegle Svendsen grabbed two victories.

But in the mass start race there was no stopping Fourcade who only had one miss on the shooting range as he crossed the line in a time of 35:58.6minutes.

Second on the day was Russia’s Alexey Volkov who shot clean for the entire race while Norway’s Tarjei Boe was third.

Svendsen, who had been so impressive in Oberhof up to that point, struggled on the shooting range with three misses and that meant he ended up down in 11th.
