Australian Open - Fifth seed Del Potro dumped out, Tsonga through

Fifth seed Juan Martin Del Potro was on the end of a huge shock when losing 4-6 6-3 5-7 6-4 7-5 to Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round of the Australian Open..

Bautista Agut is ranked 62 in the world but outlasted the former grand slam winner to produce the biggest shock in the men's draw so far in Melbourne.

The Spaniard has now reached a grand slam third round for the first time in his career.

In the early session, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga advanced to the third round courtesy of a 7-6(6) 6-4 6-4 win over Thomaz Bellucci.

Tsonga edged a tight tie-breaker in the first set before the excruciating heat - which saw the roof on the Hisense Arena closed midway through the match – began to take its toll on the Brazilian.

Bellucci began to cramp in the 40 degree heat and the Frenchman saw out the next two sets with comparative ease.

Japan’s Kei Nishikori overcame Dusan Lajovic in straight sets 6-1 6-1 7-6(3) to join Tsonga in round three.

Nishikori took the match in one hour and 49 minutes to set up a third round encounter with Donald Young, who beat Andreas Seppi 6-4 2-6 6-3 4-6 7-5.

"I think I felt much hotter than the first day I played," Nishikori said.

"I finished early today so it helped my body."

Gael Monfils will meet Rafael Nadal in the next round having beaten American Jack Sock 7-6 7-5 6-2.

The 25th seed from France took just over two hours to book his spot in the next round.
