Athletics - Ennis' coach Minichiello named coach of the year

Jessica Ennis' coach Toni Minichiello has been named UK coach of the year at the UK coaching awards.

Minichiello mastermind Ennis’ London 2012 Olympic Games Heptathlon gold medal where she clocked a British points record of 6,955, and set the fastest ever heptathlon time in the 100m hurdles

Also awarded a high-performance coach of the year award were Rory McIlroy’s coach Michael Bannon; UK Athletics head coach Peter Eriksson; and women’s endurance track cycling coach Paul Manning.

The judging panel decided to make multiple awards in the category to reflect success at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and in other sports.

There were also awards for a number of coaches who helped the Brownlee brothers Alastair and Jonathan in their formative years before they became triathlon champions.

There was also recognition for the coaches of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games gold medal winners who were inducted into the coaching Hall of Fame:.

Meanwhile, rowing coach Paul Stannard, who’s former athletes include Heather Stanning and Helen Glover, was named performance development coach of the year.

Children’s Coach of the Year – Tom Middleton - Volleyball

Community Coach of the Year: Q Shillingford - Boxing

Lifetime Achievement Award: Sheila Perks - Netball

Coach Educator of the Year - Belinda Tarling - Cycling

Coaching Intervention of the Year: Sport Northern Ireland – Active Communities
