Alpine Skiing - Vonn to miss Levi slalom

Lindsey Vonn will miss the first World Cup slalom of the season in Finland this weekend as she focuses on her home races in Colorado later in the month.

The American raced in the season opener at Soelden last week but she and fellow Olympic gold medallist Julia Mancuso will both skip the event in Levi to prepare for the upcoming races in Aspen.

US Ski Team spokesman Doug Haney said the four-time overall World Cup winner "has had an incredible preparation period" so far.

Vonn's request to race against men at Lake Louise on November 24 was turned down by the International Ski Federation on Saturday.

Fellow Americans Bode Miller and Resi Stiegler will also sit out the racing in Levi as they both recover from injuries.
