Alpine Skiing - Clarey to have back surgery and miss Schladming

Johan Clarey will miss the World Championships in Schladming due to a back injury.

The 32-year-old will be sidelined for three months after suffering a fall whilst walking near his home in Tignes at the weekend.

Clarey, who was eighth in the 2011 World downhill at Garmisch and is in the same position in the World Cup discipline standings this season, has acute low back sciatica and will undergo surgery.

The French Ski Federation has named Gauthier De Tessières as Clarey’s replacement in the Super G race on Wednesday.
