    • 90+3' FT: Real Madrid 3-1 Athletic Bilbao
    • 90' We've got three extra minutes to play in Madrid. Still 3-1 to Real.
    • 85' It's Marcelo coming off, for Dani Carvajal.
    • 83' Delightful reserve pass from Isco to Marcelo on the left-flank but Bilbao clear the ball for a corner kick.
    • 80' I suppose you can send some credit to Ernesto Valverde for his three substitutions. Bilbao have competed well in the second half without testing the Real defence.
    • 78' GOAL BILBAO! Great goal from the visitors. Ibai Gomez switching play to De Marcos to start the attack and cuts the ball back to Gomez inside the box to finish purposefully.
    • 78' Fabulous combination play with Isco and Jese. The young striker firing his shot into the side-netting, but good play from Jese.
    • 77' Herrerin with a good save from Ronaldo's low shot. The referee eventually helps Bilbao out with a free-kick awarded to the away side, as Isco was ready to pounce.
    • 74'
    • 73' Benzema sneaks off the pitch during the celebrations and Jese comes on.
    • 72' GOAL! It's a double for Isco. The Real Madrid fans love this guy: like we do too. Isco cushions the ball with such comfort, then drilling home into the right-corner of the net.
    • 71' Modric receiving an applause for getting on possession. What a turnaround given he was regarded as one of the worst signings by a Spanish newspaper.
    • 69' Sami Khedira is withdrawn for the young Brazilian Casemiro.
    • 67' Wow. Luka Modric chasing back to his own corner-flag. The fans chanting "Modric, Modric".
    • 66' That's a yellow card for Benat. A late challenge on Ronaldo.
    • 66' Will Manchester United make their move in the next 24 hours?
    • 65' Bilbao's Muniain makes way for Ibai Gomez.
    • 64'
    • 62' Gurpegi goes in strongly against Ronaldo and he's probably on his last warning. A straight red-card there, potentially.
    • 61' Modric again with a superb challenge on the edge of his own penalty box. Tenacious and strong in his defensive play today.
    • 60'
    • 60' Header by Laporte goes over the bar. Muniain seems OK and the game continues.
    • 59'
    • 58' Iker Muniain is on the deck. He was caught by Sami Khedira and the physio is on.
    • 57' Attendance confirmed at just over 72,000 at the Bernabeu this afternoon.
    • 56' Good chance for Bilbao. Aduriz picking out Susaeta at the edge of the box - but that shot was like a passback!
    • 53'
    • 53' A tearing run from Ronaldo through the Bilbao spine and he fires a right-foot shot against Gurpegi, although, an easier pass was there for the player.
    • 52'
    • 51' Excellent tracking from Luka Modric to win back possession. He has been terrific today in midfield, both in his defensive play and his use of the ball.
    • 50' Ronaldo offside. Just too eager to find his 203rd Real Madrid goal.
    • 48' Isco breaking from deep, linking with Marcelo on the left-side, but tackled by Iraola.
    • 47' We need to expect a little bit more from Bilbao in this second half. A 100% record in La Liga on the line today.
    • 45' Erik Moran has only made one other La Liga appearance for Athletic Bilbao - against Real Madrid.
    • 45' The second 45 kicks-off.
    • 45' SUB: Moran and De Marcos ON, Rico and Itturaspe OFF.
    • 45' The two teams have returned for the second-half and we've had a change in the Bilbao ranks.
    • 45' Thoughts on the first 45 minutes? A decent half, for sure, with Bilbao holding their own. But what a statistic: Ronaldo with 202 goals in 202 games. Phenomenal. Plus, we love Isco too.
    • 45+1' HT: Real Madrid 2-0 Athletic Bilbao
    • 45+1' Goooooooool! Who scores? It's Cristiano Ronaldo. A perfect set-piece from Angel Di Maria, finds Ronaldo on the penalty spot and he nods the ball into the net.
    • 45' An extra minute of additional time.
    • 42' Benzema delays his decision to shoot, which gives Bilbao's defence the time to regroup and block for a corner-kick. Their sixth of the game so far.
    • 42'
    • 40' A fine counter-attack from Marcelo, then spreading a wonderful 50-yard ball to Di Maria who controls the ball and delivers dangerously inside the box. Benzema seems to get the header on goal, with Ronaldo crashing into him, but the ball heads over the top.
    • 39' Aduriz takes another tumble, again, part of a Real Madrid sandwich. Another sore one on the ankle.
    • 38' Di Maria misses the target from the edge of the box, opening his body on to his left-foot, but a poor effort in the end.
    • 37' Ronaldo drifts offside after Modric found Marcelo with a stunning cross-field pass.
    • 35' Strong punch from Herrerin with Real Madrid sending the big-guys up for a corner-kick. The game still being played at a surprisingly reserved tempo.
    • 34' Nice to see I'm not the only one who loves Isco. Great player.
    • 33' Bad news for Bilbao fans with Aduriz twisting his ankle on the Bernabeu turf. He's receiving treatment, but might continue.
    • 33' And so do we.
    • 32' Arbeloa passes up a fine chance to throw a dangerous cross into the box, he over-cooks it and the ball goes out for a throw-in. Frustrating for Ancelotti.
    • 30' Incredible-Isco!
    • 29' Benat's strike goes tantalisingly close with Lopez at full stretch. Still 1-0 Real Madrid.
    • 28' So, Benat stands over the ball for a second time, about 5 yards closer than before. An excellent position - but Real won't be happy if this beats Diego Lopez.
    • 27' Benat's free-kick goes smashing into the Real Madrid wall, but the referee seems to have given another set-piece for a handball. Take two, for Bilbao.
    • 25' GOAL! GOAL! GOAL! Isco pops up inside the box to fire Real Madrid ahead. The ex-Malaga man times his run to perfection, cushions the ball and slots the ball into the net.
    • 24' The resulting corner-kick lands on the head of Sergio Ramos, back across goal but Pepe is merely a few yards away from turning the ball home.
    • 23' Finger-tip save from Herrerin with Ronaldo cutting inside from the left-flank and drilling his shot wide. Good effort.
    • 21' Ronaldo's free-kick goes crashing into the wall. Little purchase on the effort from the Real No.7.
    • 20' A cynical challenge from Gurpegi on Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese star goes crashing to the floor.
    • 16' Karim Benzema springs into life, played in behind, but the Frenchman seemed to rush his decision with Gurpegi recovering well in central defence for Bilbao.
    • 16' An awful attempt from Benat, taking the strike from about 40 yards. A bit of a waste of possession for Bilbao.
    • 14' Ronaldo has been kept quiet so far. First offside for him today, the Bilbao back-line opting for a pretty high defensive position.
    • 12'
    • 11' Lovely play from Luka Modric on the outside of the box, but Alvaro Arbeloa caught offside.
    • 7' Isco holding a very wide left-sided position, just to the outside of the full-back. The camera angle in the Bernabeu today is absolutely terrible.
    • 6' Mikel Rico blasting a half-volley miles wide of the post. Alvaro Arbeloa knocked the ball down to him perfectly: he must've thought he was playing for Bilbao for a second.
    • 3'
    • 2' But Susaeta shows some bright energy down the inside-right channel to pick up on a through ball. He goes for the cut-back across goal from a tight angle - but nobody was there. He'll be a threat to Real today.
    • 2' Slow start to the game. The cobwebs are there; probably from the time of kick-off more than anything!
    • 1' So, a lot of sub-plots to this game. Bale about to join; reports in Spain suggesting Ozil will head to United; Valverde returning to the Bernabeu; Herrera on the bench.
    • 0' That's quite a line-up on the bench with Zinedine Zidane to the right of Carlo Ancelotti.
    • 0' We're underway.
    • 10:57 The teams have emerged and the Bernabeu is bathed in September sunshine. We're almost ready to start in Madrid.
    • 10:57 Our very own Scotsman at Real Madrid.
    • 10:56
    • 10:53 Less than 10 minutes until kick-off: who are you looking forward to watching today? For me, Isco. A brilliant player and he endeared himself to me more with a headed goal. You can't beat a good old header.
    • 10:49 Two wins from two games for Real Madrid, likewise with Bilbao - something has to give. The news on Gareth Bale, as per the Eurosport home page, is that a deal will be completed today. The stand where he would be unveiled has been removed temporarily, as reported.

He has done absolutely more than the original price and what with the kind of obscene transfer fees being bandied around these days! Just kidding but CR7 is the true definition of the term PHENOMENAL!
