    • Manchester United
    • West Ham United
    • 90+5' There's the final whistle, and without excelling Manchester United have done enough to set up a fourth round tie against Fulham.
    • 90+4' Man Utd come away on the break with Giggs, who is in acres on the left and just holds the ball, hoping to burn as many seconds as possible.
    • 90+3' Matt Taylor is crowded out in the box and goes to ground more in hope than expectation. No penalty.
    • 90+3' Last minute - have West Ham got a final flourish left?
    • 90+2' West Ham look spent, and Man Utd are doing a decent job running the clock down here.
    • 90+1' From OptaJoe: 8 - Paul Scholes has collected eight yellow cards in his past 14 appearances for Man Utd. Roughhouse.
    • 90' Three minutes of added time to be played.
    • 89' This is the bit where we talk about Paul Scholes learning to tackle (aged 38) - he takes out Matt Taylor and that's a booking.
    • 88' Time running out for West Ham. They look a little tired and are struggling to close the home side down.
    • 86' Wayne Rooney - 17/26 penalties for Manchester United.
    • 85' Great ball from Giggs to Hernandez who is offside yet again - he puts the ball in the net and a pickier ref might have booked him for that.
    • 84' Hernandez flagged offside again as he chases a Scholes through ball. In fact, play continues as the ball bounces straight through to Jaaskelainen.
    • 83' Rooney controls a Valencia cross on his chest but cannot work the ball into shooting position and plays it backwards,
    • 81' That certainly changes the narrative - If United blow this, they will look pretty foolish.
    • 80' Well, that was a stinker from Wayne Rooney. Horrible penalty. He's not the best at them...
    • 79' MISSED!! Rooney skies the penalty; he sidefoots it and gets right underneath the ball sending it high into the crowd!
    • 79' PENALTY MANCHESTER UNITED! Jordan Spence handles Giggs's cross and Phil Dowd points to the spot! Probably a fair decision.
    • 78' Man Utd: Paul Scholes replaces Nani; West Ham: Elliott Lee replaces Ricardo Vaz Te.
    • 77' Jordan Spence clatters Buttner and that's another booking. No argument from the West Ham man. It was late and crude.
    • 76' Flair! Buttner wins the ball with a Zidane-style spin and plays the ball backwards.
    • 75' Yellow card Nolan for mouthing off to Phil Dowd.
    • 74' Paul Scholes is warming up. And presumably Fergie will make sure he has one change left to bring RVP on if West Ham score...
    • 73' Kevin Nolan's a good player and all, but his turning circle would make a barge chuckle. He receives the ball from Vaz Te but takes a week to manoeuvre his way past a defender and the chance has gone. A note, Kev: hit it first time.
    • 71' The home team emjoying a decent spell of possession here. Looking to take the sting out of this West Ham second-half performance.
    • 70' Great work by Hernandez as he dummies and runs into the box where Rooney nearly finds him, but again the ball has just too much pace on it.
    • 69' Those changes seem to have taken a bit of the pace out of the game, which is fine by Manchester United.
    • 67' Manchester United: Michael Carrick on for Anderson.
    • 67' Rafael skins his man and pokes a through ball into the box towards Hernandez, but again Jaaskelainen does really well to claim.
    • 66' Interesting change from Sam Allardyce, removing a striker but certainly boosting the midfield.
    • 65' West Ham changes: Jack Collison and Kevin Nolan on for Carlton Cole and Mohamed Diame.
    • 64' Chance for Matt Taylor as Vaz Te backheels it into his path, but he blazes the shot over! West Ham getting closer.
    • 64' Nani crosses towards Hernandez at the edge of the six-yard box... well played by Jaaskelainen to dive on the ball as it bounces.
    • 63' Not so good from Anderson. He winds up for a 25-yarder and shanks it wide in toblerone-booted fashion.
    • 62' Crucial foot in from Tomkins to stop the ball finding its way to Hernandez eight yards out.. vital intervention.
    • 61' A Jones slip lets Taylor in... he tries to square the ball when he could have a go at goal... and United clear. That was a real chance.
    • 60' ...terrible, terrible delivery. Terrible. Looked like he kicked the ground before making contact with the ball.
    • 60' United corner on the right, Giggs to swing it in...
    • 59' A relatively rare attack for Man Utd now as Valencia whips a cross in from the right... it's headed clear.
    • 58' From the resultant corner, West Ham skipper Winston Reid ends up on the floor claiming a penalty - no dice.
    • 57' Tomkins's header hits Rooney from point blank range - muted penalty shouts but no way that was a deliberate handball.
    • 56' Goals going in all over the place elsewhere - Arsenal have finally broken Swansea down, and there's excitement at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea v Southampton: LIVE
    • 55' Good defensive header from Phil Jones to clear a free-kick at the edge of the six-yard box.
    • 54' Spence nutmegs Buttner and crosses low from the right... Jones clears. Manchester United not playing well.
    • 53' Rafael crosses low from the right and it bounces through to Jaaskelainen.
    • 52' Man Utd are on the ropes here, throwing their bodies in the way of the ball - Matt Taylor sees a 20-yard shot blocked for a throw.
    • 51' This game has really livedned up since the start of the second half - West Ham win a corner on the right, swung in and the ball bobbles around before Rooney finally hacks it clear.
    • 50' And West Ham might feel aggrieved as a replay of West Ham's last attack showed Rafael apparently controlling the ball with his arm inside the box. Should West Ham have had a penalty? It certainly looks like it.
    • 49' HERNANDEZ!! What a miss! He robs Diarra after the West Ham man misontrols, he races through on goal and puts his shot over! You would bet your house on him finishing that.
    • 48' Diame has space to run through the centre... he's eventually closed down and forced to play the ball wide.
    • 46' Javier Hernandez has the ball in the net after Rooney squares it, but the whistle has already gone - Rooney just offside when the through ball is played.
    • 46' Right then, off we go. West Ham kick the second half off but are immediately under pressure as a shanked clearance lands to Nani... he can't make anything of the opportunity.
    • 45+1' That's half time, and Manchester United are a goal to the good courtesy of the returning Wayne Rooney.
    • 45' Just one minute of added time to be played - this game has slowed to walking pace.
    • 43' Manchester United are well on top, but as long as the margin is only one goal West ham are still in this.
    • 42' Rooney!! Hits a dipping 25-yarder that has Jaaskelainen springing low to his right to make a decent two-handed save.
    • 41' Rooney's inswinging cross from the left is blocked so he reloads and tries again... this time he beats the first man but West Ham clear.
    • 40' Good work rate from Rooney to win a 50-50 and chase the ball a further 40 yards. He finds Giggs, who rather wastes possession.
    • 39' Ambitious from Nani, who cuts inside from the left and tries a dipping 30-yarder that doesn't dip and flies way over the bar.
    • 38' Rooney sets Anderson away on the break, but the Brazilian takes a poor touch and leaves the ball behind... giving Tomkins the chance to tackle him.
    • 37' Rooney and Giggs exchange passes - well actually they don't. Rooney passes to Giggs, whose return ball is hopeless.
    • 36' West Ham come forward on a rare foray into Man Utd territory... Terrible attempted through ball by Gary O'Neill and the ball goes out for a goal kick.
    • 34' Valencia plays a one-two with Nani who sends the ball back with a gorgeous back-flick... but Valencia is offside.
    • 33' Rooney tries to find Valencia in the West Ham box but his pass is errant. Still, the visitors find themselves under constant pressure.
    • 32' Buttner crosses low from the left - it clangs off the outside of the post and goes wide. Sounds more dramatic than it was - the ball was way out wide and Jaaskelainen had it covered.
    • 31' Rooney crosses pacily from the left - it's straight at Jaaskelainen but the goalkeeper fumbles it! And Spence hacks the ball away.
    • 30' Spence nudges Nani out of the way at the edge of the West Ham box - he goes to ground but referee Dowd waves play on.
    • 29' The ball comes back into the box and Smalling heads it straight at Jaaskelainen. The home team pressing now...
    • 28' ...Oh, that's great play! Giggs plays it to Valencia who cushions it down to Nani whose powerful, goalbound volley is blocked by Potts!
    • 27' Man Utd win a corner on the right, Giggs to deliver...
    • 26' Look out in row Z - Jones absolutely blasts a clearance into the crowd and it thumps into some poor fan.
    • 25' Rooney stretches to lob a diagonal through ball towards Hernandez, but there is too much pace on the ball.
    • 24' Big Sam often sits up in the stands, but today he's in the dugout. Read into that what you won't.
    • 22' Hernandez races on to a ball into the West Ham box, but this time there is an offside flag up against him. Correct decision.
    • 21' Cole is penalised for a push on Smalling in the Man Utd box... looks a bit harsh from Phil Dowd.
    • 20' Carlton Cole has made an industrious start. Plenty of energy and movement up front. He's not exactly a glamour player but he does work very hard.
    • 19' Nice stat from OptaJoe: 1 - Man Utd haven't lost an FA Cup game at home when scoring since losing 2-1 to Norwich in Feb 1967 (68 games since). Fortress.
    • 18' Diame hits a shot that comes off Jones's shins and spins behind for a corner.
    • 17' West Ham are starting to see a bit more possession. It has been a Man Utd staple either to concede first and come roaring back, or score first and slack off completely.
    • 16' I'm increasingly fond of those ads for Mister Potato on the Old Trafford hoardings. It's Malaysia's no.1 potato snack and Official Snack Partner of Manchester United, in case you were wondering.
    • 15' A few patches of empty seats inside Old Trafford, but I'd guess there are 70,000 in. Which is obviously not too shabby.
    • 13' Nani cuts inside from the left and hits a shot straight at Jaaskelainen. He's back from injury, now can Nani prove he has a future at Old Trafford.
    • 12' More importantly, Richard Jolly reports on Twitter: "Man Utd beat West Ham 5-3 in test of toughness. Giggs, Jones, Anderson, Buttner and Rafael in short sleeves & no gloves." Two Brazilians...
    • 11' A fine Anderson through ball set that goal up - but Hernandez might just have been a nanometere or two offside...
    • 10' That's eight goals for Wayne Rooney in his last six matches against West Ham.
    • 9' GOAL!! Wayne Rooney on his return from injury, and it couldn't be easier! Hernandez races through the left channel and squares to Rooney who has an open goal!
    • 8' Ricardo Vaz Te hits a bobbly shot from outside the box that Lindegaard claims easily.
    • 7' Decent tracking back from 39-year-old Ryan Giggs to dispossess Diame.
    • 6' Buttner goes for goal, and sends a powerful effort about two feet too high and two feet too far to the right.
    • 5' Vaz Te plays a through ball for Vaz Te to chase - Smalling considers letting it run through to Lindegaard but in the end deals with it himself.
    • 4' Alex Buttner wins a Man Utd corner... Rooney delivers from the left but it is headed clear.
    • 3' If at any point tonight I refer to 'United', please assume I mean Manchester. Will try not to, though...
    • 2' Manchester United corner taken by Giggs - his cross blocked for a throw.
    • 1' And we're off! Manchester United kick off, playing from left to right as we see it.
    • 20:05 Here's Roy
    • 20:03 Out come the teams! Ryan Giggs leads Manchester United out at a pretty-much full Old Trafford. West Ham are in their sky blue change strip.
    • 20:00 My word. If you're near a telly, get an eyeful of Roy Keane's beard. Amazing.
    • 20:00 A quick hello from me. I'm Alex Chick, and I'll be your host this evening. There, introductions over. Alex Chick on Twitter
    • 19:55 It's an absolutely f-f-freezing night in the north-west. It's minus-one inside Old Trafford, and definitely an evening for wrapping up warm. Expect to see a lot of gloves tonight.
    • 19:50 And across London at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are taking on Southampton in the Premier League. Chelsea v Southampton: LIVE
    • 19:50 There's plenty of other action under way in England - at the Emirates Stadium Arsenal are taking on Swansea in their FA Cup third round replay. Arsenal v Swansea City: LIVE
    • 19:45 Sam Allardcye earlier this week on resting players: "The one area I should rest is the defenders, but I can't. If I don't rest the defenders and they get injured, I'm in bigger trouble against QPR on Saturday. Until we get those injuries back we're in a delicate position in terms of the amount of games we've got as well." As it happens, he hasn't rested his defenders...
    • 19:40 More Opta stats: The last three matches between Manchester United and West Ham United in all competitions have featured three goals in the last 15 minutes. The Red Devils have kept only two clean sheets in their last 12 home games (in all comps), one of those came against West Ham in the league however.
    • 19:35 Stats from Opta: Robin van Persie has scored five times in his last four appearances (in all comps) against West Ham United. West Ham have failed to score in their last four trips to Old Trafford in all competitions, losing all four.
    • 19:30 No Joe Cole, Kevin Nolan, Matt Jarvis or Mark Noble for West Ham tonight... Sam Allardyce may be thinking about the two Premier League games in four days West Ham have coming up.
    • 19:25 Interesting team selections - Wayne Rooney is back after his knee injury, while Robin van Persie is poised on the bench to drag Manchester United out of the mire again. Anders Lindegaard comes into nets for United.
    • 19:20 Welcome to live coverage of the FA Cup third round replay between Manchester United and West Ham at Old Trafford!
    • 19:15 MANCHESTER UNITED: Lindegaard, Rafael, Smalling, Jones, Buttner, Valencia, Anderson, Giggs, Nani, Hernandez, Rooney... Subs: Amos, Ferdinand, Carrick, Scholes, Van Persie, Kagawa, Welbeck. // WEST HAM: Jaaskelainen, Spence, Tomkins, Reid, Potts; Diarra, O'Neill, Diame, Taylor; Vaz Te, C Cole... Subs: Spiegel, Demel, Jarvis, Collison, Nolan, Lletget, Lee.
  • Summary

    • 79' MISSED!! Rooney skies the penalty; he sidefoots it and gets right underneath the ball sending it high into the crowd!

  1. Sentiments apart Rooney is one of the strikers. If he misses penalties,he still scored the winning goal.

From Lekan Adeyemi, on Sat 16 Feb 8:00
  2. Need to improve and spend some cash before window closes A L.Wing, strong DMF, and a CB. is the minimum Out ; Welbeck, Kagawa

From murphy, on Sat 19 Jan 20:45
  3. Don't worry Stanislaw, if Arsenal keep improving as they are, who knows, they may be able to challenge for the league cup in five years time.

  4. SUPERMAN Sorry fans, but I missed the blatant handball that Raphael got away with bwcause O'Dowd missed the appeaLS FROM WEST HAM PLAYERS , EVEN THOUGH IT SHOWS UP ON THE REPLAY , COPY OF HENRI-TYPE OF HANDBALL , SNEAKY BRAZILIAN UNITED-TAUGHT PLAYER...........strauight out of United training ground , how to avoid ref. seeing your handball defensive mechanism , turn your back to him!"

From Stanislaw, on Thu 17 Jan 16:43
  5. F......U Alex. So quiet when his team or him are cheating with the game. Why say not thing about the handball. Oh I see because his team won. That how Manu you survive most of the game because their spirit are just Alex !!

From Srawut, on Thu 17 Jan 15:24
  6. A Dismal game, Man Utd just about did enough, the pitch is the worst I've seen for years, it could be seen that some players were returning from injury and where defiantly not ready to throw everything into the game I'm just glad it didn't go into extra time.

From jaybee, on Thu 17 Jan 13:57
  7. So many comments from people who have no idea of the rules especially the offside rule, Would suggest that you make sure of your facts before writing rubbish on here and making fools of yourselves. As for the match it was a poor display by United who looked lethargic with the exception of Giggs who was running around like a 20 year old still with the skill and speed to beat defenders. The only other player who was at the races was Smalling who had a great game in the centre of defence. Hernandez was always dangerous but needs to time his runs a little better but is still dangerous and difficult to mark. West Ham created a few chances but had no one to finish off the move. United need to improve to win the league or any trophy this year

From Graham, on Thu 17 Jan 11:40
  8. Positives, Giggs rolled back the years yet again and was magnificent, putting younger lads to shame and Smalling was immense in the air, he was first to every ball all night he looks a very classy player

From Adam, on Thu 17 Jan 10:14
  9. ronney is playing rubbish these days,if he plays 5 penalties,if he scores 2,he is very lucky,i hope that old man will find a better person that can do that work well for us,oh i forgot vanpersi can and better than that fat player ronney.

From Steven, on Thu 17 Jan 1:54
  10. Sorry...what did you expect when you face united with dodd as a ref? To obvious united will win...and yup hernandez 50-50 offside, but as usual linesman just too soft. See you...VCC

From Rennati, on Thu 17 Jan 0:17
  11. with united top of the premier league playing the football they play week after week, the league must be in decline

From phil, on Wed 16 Jan 23:50
  12. Stanislaw, you think you can get carded for being offside. You know nothing about football. Everyone here knows it. Why do you bother posting? You just make a fool out of yourself every time.

From Vidic wasn't offside, on Wed 16 Jan 22:25
  13. Comment hidden due to its low rating. Show

SUPERMAN Its happening at every United match ........firstly, they are blessed with getting one of a set of favourable refs. by the Prof.Refs.Assoc. , once again , so soon after having Webb.............guess who O'Dowd , a Northerner who likes a chat to United players before the match , next he will be invited by Fergie for a coffee after the match review , while he is waiting for 9/10 for refeering the match . Secondly , how many yellow cards has one got to get before you are banned for 2/3 matches 5 or 6 , yet according to the football pundits he is up to 9 now , who is running the review system , Fergie again. Thirdly , was the ref. and the linesman at fault for letting Hernandez be offside and still get a twelling pass to Rooney to score , how come neither of them picked up th BLATANT OFFSIDE and disallowed the goal , Hernandez is taking the p*** TO THE OFFSIDE RULE , AT EVERY ATTACK HE WAS CONSTANTLY OFFSIDE WHEN THE BALL WAS KICK FORWARD YET , EVEN THOUGH HE DIDN'T GET THE PASS , HE STILL TRANSGRESSES THE RULE , WHY CAN ONLY UNITED PLAYERS GET AWAY WITH THIS. Fourthly , he scores an offside goal and slams the ball away , blatant disregard for O'Dowd's officiating yet Little Pea is getting away with it , why is the rule constantly broken by United players...........who are laughing at the ref. Fifthly, the handball against West Ham was just waiting for O'Dowd to give United a two-goal advantage , yet Shrek Rooney missed............................justice has been done because ball into hand not hand to ball has won ......O'Dowd again has got something to regret and Fergie is being rude in the extreme on way down to the changing room............his team were lucky again..................they are mediocre?

  18. Hey Clarice, it was a miserable cold night against a side who probably didn't want to be there either. Job done and hopefully we'll have a better game next time. There were no injuries and a couple of the returning lads got a run out. Some of the lads who needed it got a night off. Although it was horrible to watch it's all good in the end.
