    • 90+4' There's the final whistle. Have that. Incredible performance from Bayern Munich - tepid from Barcelona - and it will take a miracle to keep Barca in the tournament.
    • 90+3' Robben swerves a shot over from the edge of the box... in fact it gets a touch so a corner.
    • 90+2' Barca racking up the bookings now - Iniesta sees yellow for a foul on Martinez.
    • 90+1' Three minutes of stoppage time to be played.
    • 90' The brilliant Robben gets a standing ovation as he comes across to take a throw-in on the Bayern right.
    • 89' Jordi Alba's a lucky man. He frustratedly tosses the ball into Robben's face but only picks up a booking. Mind you, that does rule him of the second leg - also known as 'the rest of Barcelona's Champions League campaign'.
    • 88' Barcelona sub: Xherdan Shaqiri on for Franck Ribery.
    • 87' It's party time here as Arjen Robben throws himself into a sliding tackle and fortunately fails to make contact. Steady, Arjen.
    • 86' Robben sprints away from Alexis Sanchez ho tugs him back and it's a free-kick for Bayern.
    • 84' The Allianz Arena is absolutely jumping, Bayern Munich have destroyed a team still widely considered the best in the world. Magnificent.
    • 83' Meanwhile, Bayern have brought on Claudio Pizarro for Thomas Mueller.
    • 83' Barcelona sub: Bit late now - David Villa on for Pedro.
    • 82' GUTE NACHT!! Thomas Mueller makes it 4-0 Bayern Munich! Barcelona surely dead and buried. Ribery lays it off to Alaba down the left and Mueller turns in his low cross. What a performance.
    • 81' Alves is back on his feet and should be OK to continue. Still no subs from Vilanova.
    • 80' Nearly four! Mueller gets in, but Valdes does well to race out and smother the shot - then Alves stays down after a collision with Schweinsteiger.
    • 79' All Barca possession, but still they struggle to make inroads. Messi punts a long ball straight at Neuer.
    • 78' Sanchez takes a tumble inside the box, but referee Victor Kassai tells him to stop being silly and get up. Or at least that's what I think he said.
    • 77' The visitors are virtually camped out inside the Bayern half. Have they got anything left in the tank?
    • 76' Barcelona free-kick 40 yards out... into the box where Bartra takes it into acres of space - he must score, but he blazes it over. That was not Barcelona composure there... Bartra not the man you'd want that to fall to.
    • 75' Barcelona really have to score now, and Messi gets on the ball with a sense of urgency for just about the first time.
    • 74' Well, now. Bayern Munich have a three-goal lead! Two of the goals have question marks over them but you have to say Bayern have been superb.
    • 73' GOAL!!! A brilliant individual effort by Arjen Robben, aided by a sneaky Thomas Mueller block on Jordi Alba! Fantastic dribbling and finish from Robben, but there was a clear foul by Mueller...
    • 73' Pedro crosses from the left towards Pique - Neuer only gets a slight touch on it but Bayern survive!
    • 72' That rather makes Bayern's intentions clear. They're very happy with 2-0 and would like it to stay that way.
    • 71' Bayern sub: Luis Gustavo comes on for Mario Gomez.
    • 70' Lahm's cross hits Pique and goes out for yet another corner.
    • 69' Finally Messi dribbles into the box.. he takes on two players but sees his shot hit Dante and go behind for a corner.
    • 68' The change is going to come from Bayern, who are preparing Luis Gustavo to come on.
    • 67' More pressure from Barcelona, but Pedro gives the ball away looking for Sanchez. How long until Tito Vilanova makes a change? Fabregas and Villa among those on the bench.
    • 66' Mueller tuns his man and has time to cross, but he dawdles and eventually Iniesta takes the ball off him.
    • 66' Ribery sprints beyond his man and crosses left-footed - it's a poor delivery over the two red shirts in the centre.
    • 65' Another imprecise cross from Alba to the edge of the box... this time cut out by Alaba.
    • 64' Schweisteiger goes in a touch late on Xavi, and that's a free-kick. No booking, which is probably fair enough.
    • 63' Better from Barcelona - Alba has space to cross from the left and his ball, intended for Messi, is cut out.
    • 62' Xavi releases the sprinting Alves down the right... he keeps the ball in and pulls it back, but cannot find a team-mate.
    • 61' Barcelona are still dominating possession (65%) at the moment - but they have just done nothing with it. Still time, though.
    • 60' Here come Bayern on the break! Robben drifts inside and spots the run from the overlapping Ribery... it's a tough pass to execute, and it rolls beyond the Frenchman.
    • 59' Messi cuts inside from the left, but once again Bayern swarm all over him and cvut out his intended pass. He's having a horrible night.
    • 58' Ribery swings the free-kick in and it's met by Robben who directs his header just wide! That was a real chance for the Dutchman!
    • 57' Alves flattens Mueller and here's another chance for Bayern to put the ball into a dangerous area in the box.
    • 56' The question is: would Barcelona take a 2-0 defeat? One the one hand, they're getting slaughtered and need to stop the rot. On the other, would that be too great a deficit to overturn against excellent opponents?
    • 55' Robben finds Ribery on the left side of the box - the Frenchman can't quite get the ball out from under his feet and drags his shot wide.
    • 54' Iniesta wins the ball, but Boateng meets it with a booming clearance. They know when to be subtle, and when to be direct, do Bayern.
    • 53' Incredibly, Barcelona have only won three of their last 15 away knockout matches in this competition - looks like being three in 16.
    • 52' Bayern are all over Barcelona, who have been a pale shadow of themselves and need to step it up pronto.
    • 51' If you haven't already, you need to hit the Gomez button! www.gomezbutton.de
    • 50' Robben hit a deep corner from the right, Mueller nodded back across goal and Gomez finished from close range. But was the striker offside? Looked like he might have been...
    • 49' TOR! Bayern Munich 2-0 Barcelona - Mario Gomez bundles in from another corner and Barca are in deep trouble!
    • 49' Yet another handball appeal from Bayern as Javi Martinez chases a clipped through ball over the top! Bartra was the defender, but it looks like a good decision.
    • 48' Sanchez plays a through ball to Iniesta. The offside flag goes up, wrongly, but in any case Neuer scrambles out and gets to the ball first.
    • 47' Javi Martinez has kept Andres Iniesta quiet, but now a nibble at his countryman's heels earns him a yellow card.
    • 46' Seocnd half under way! No personnel changes from either side, but will we see a change in approach from Barca?
    • 45' No added time, and that's half-time! Bayern Munich deservedly lead. We need to see more from Barcelona after the break.
    • 45' I don't really see the point of Xavi lumping corners into the mixer when Barcelona have so few excellent headers of the ball.
    • 44' Alves meets a challenge from Schweinsteiger as he cuts inside from the right, but it's a corner for Barcelona.
    • 43' Messi through ball intended for Jordi Alba, but the ball skips beyond him and out for a goal kick.
    • 42' Ribery dances away from a couple of challenges inside his own box... a few palpitations among the Bayern fans but he gets away with it!
    • 41' This is obviously the time when we start asking questions about Messi's fitness. Though it's also entirely possible Bayern are just playing a disciplined game extremely well.
    • 40' Messi escapes the clutches of Martinez but almost immediately Mueller flies in with a tackle. He's had no joy at all tonight, Messi...
    • 39' Bartra flies in clumsily and late on Mueller and that's another yellow card for the inexperienced Barcelona man.
    • 38' Given away again by Barcelona, who have been uncharacteristically sloppy in their use of the ball.
    • 37' Yellow card for Gomez - he made a crass, barging challenge on Messi and that was always going to be a booking.
    • 36' Another corner for Bayern, who are well in control at the moment.
    • 35' Ribery goes down in a heap under Bartra's challenge - no foul, say the ref, and he's right.
    • 34' Lovely touch on the left from Ribery to keep the ball in play. Beautiful control though Bayern do nothing with possession.
    • 33' The official behind the goal never does anything - we know that. Though on that occasion he did manage to get in the way of the replay. Cheers, fella.
    • 32' Bayern want a penalty as the ball comes in from the corner... Dante's header hit Sanchez on the arm though the Barca man knew nothing about it. Good decision.
    • 32' Great sliding tackle from Schweinsteiger to dispossess Messi, and the crowd greets it with a huge roar.
    • 31' Well, this certainly makes things interesting. If Barcelona fail to score tonight they'll have a real mountain to climb at home. Mind, they lost 2-0 in the first leg to Milan and blew them out of the water. Don't think that'll happen again.
    • 30' Vital touch from Dante!! He gets a toenail on Pedro's cross from the right and puts it out for a corner... Messi was unmarked behind him.
    • 29' Hmm... Dante had his arms all over Dani Alves when he headed the ball back across goal for Mueller.
    • 28' Mueller releases Robben down the right channel but Pique is quickly in attendance to snuff out the danger.
    • 27' Remember Mueller's crazy celebration from the Champions League final? This wasn't far off...
    • 26' Dante met Robben's cross with an initial header, Barcelona couldn't get anything on the ball and it fell for Mueller at the right post who stooped and nodded in - Valdes unable to keep the ball out.
    • 25' GOAL! Thomas Mueller heads Bayern Munich into the lead from close range after Barcelona fail to clear a corner!
    • 24' Bartra meets a long through ball for Gomez with an unconvincing header - another corner for Bayern.
    • 23' Now Busquets gives it away - but Barcelona close down so diligently they soon snuff out the danger. Midway through the first half, no goals.
    • 22' Valdes flaps at Robben's corner and gets a weak punch away... but he wins a free-kick for an offence in the six-yard box.
    • 21' Bartra gives it away to Schweinsteiger who slides a quick through ball for Gomez who loses out... but Bayern do get a corner on their right.
    • 20' Neither side is playing for the draw here - but they both prize possession so much they're not really taking the risks necessary to break the opposition down.
    • 19' Jupp Heynckes sits calmly in his seat with a wodge of paper and a pen on his knee, like he's attending a slightly dull conference.
    • 18' Robben takes a quick corner to the edge of the box, receives a return pass and... is offside.
    • 17' The replay of that Pique handball suggests he might have got away with one there - had plenty of time to get arm out of way and didn't - if anything, he leant into the ball slightly.
    • 16' Another headed clearance from Pique lands to Mueller who fires off a first-time shot from a tight angle but it's straight at Valdes.
    • 15' Lahm's 20-yarder hits Pique and goes behind for a corner. Bayern claim for a handball, but referee Kassai doesn't want to know.
    • 14' Alaba steps up to intercept a pass intended for Lionel Messi. Neither side giving much away.
    • 13' Bayern play it around in that metronomic way of theirs. They are bossing possession so far but Bayern have had the better chance through Robben early on.
    • 12' Let's face facts: it's not been the high-octane start we'd hoped for. But hang tight, it'll warm up.
    • 11' Some suggestions re: the overwatering of the pitch that Bayern have done it deliberately to slow Barca down (or even drown Messi!) - not sure about that. Bayern can usually hold their own at home...
    • 10' Pique tries to spread the play with a 60-yard diagonal ball down the right that Dani Alves just cannot catch up with.
    • 9' Xavi meets the ball with a header but cannot direct it goalwards. The ball actually flicked off Dante's massive hair on its way out, but a goal kick is awarded.
    • 9' Alaba blocks Pedro's cross from the right but it's a corner for the visitors, which Xavi will take.
    • 8' Long spell of possession from Barcelona. Bayern closing down but having to be patient. Both sides used to hogging the ball...
    • 7' Messi directs play with his arms, though he may well be yet to have a kick.. he finally gets it but is quickly closed down by two opponents.
    • 6' Bayern weren't happy about a challenge by Bartra on Gomes in the box, claiming their man was barged. The replay confirms there was absolutely nothing in it.
    • 5' Ribery swings in a corner from the left, which is met by the bald head of Pique.
    • 4' It hasn't been a wet day in Munich, but water spalshes up in the centre circle as the players battle. The ball moving OK elsewhere though... Oddly over-watered...
    • 3' Schweinsteiger trips Xavi for the game's first foul. referee Victor Kassai looks like he might book the midfielder, but he thinks better of it.
    • 2' Chance! Gomez backheels into the path of Robben who takes a touch then toepokes goalwards and Valdes saves with his legs!
    • 2' Robben finds the overlapping Lahm whose cross is cleared, and bayern are straight on the front foot.
    • 1' And off we go! Barcelona are playing from left to right as we see it, and they're in their home kit despite the flashes of red. Bayern all in red.
    • 19:42 Out come the teams as the fans hold up coloured cards to make a red-and-white backdrop to the sides' entrance. And the Champions League anthem plays...
    • 19:40 The atmosphere in the Allianz Arena is absolutely electric. This is going to be quite an encounter. Just minutes away now...

  5. 2013 should be dubbed year of Bayern and Germany.

From Amir, on Wed 24 Apr 18:20
  6. I dont know the algorithm used in calculating ball possession but watching yesterdays game -Bayern (34.3%) V Barcelona (65.7%) s possession, I guess this should be reviewed personal opinion though. I guess the algorithm for ball possession should not give same count for possession in teams half and the opponents half.

  7. While I don't think Barcelona have played as well this season and I remember saying after the Milan game..... if you get at the Barca defence you can score goals I cetainly did not expect that result.....Not even Messi at his very best can turn that score round.....Then again Bayern Munich always reach the later stages of this competition.....Bayern will not concede five goals in the second leg

From Raymond, on Wed 24 Apr 10:18
  8. Ohhhh far too many are signalling the death of Barca here. Trust me its not. This game alone isnt over yet, just half time, and the Nou Camp with 100000 and a fit again Messi, will make a big difference. Enough?? Probably not, but they will give it a go. If they lose, in the summer Villa will go, and i think you will see a striker or two arrive, possible Aguero, and at least 1 world class centre half. This will not be the end because they lost one game.

  9. Shows what a good result Arsenal had at bayern. If only the gunners were stronger at the back during the home leg!!!

  10. Some weeks ago on these pages I posted,in anticipation of this tie, that where Barca like to play round opponenents with their one-touch style of play,Bayern Munich simply use their muscle to play straight through the oppostion. This is exactly what happened last night,Barcelona were brushed aside as if they were not there. This not to say that B.M.do not have a very talented squad and with the useful addition of Goetz from Dortmund and Pep Guardiola taking over next season, look for European domination by the German champions

  12. I am wondering if Munich doesn't show in the next play against Barcelona, It's gonna be 0-3 to Barcelona. Am I right? so Munich will be advanced to the final!

  15. see, possession isn't everything barca 65.7% to bayerns 34.3, liverpool is the biggest example of that anyway. honestly i didn't expect 4-0 but, i wouldn't have questioned there quality,

From Ash, on Tue 23 Apr 23:15
  16. If they overturn this one, they will be the greatest team ever. 5-0? impossible.

  17. Hand Ball, off side goal, inconspicuous diving, tantrum, verbal abuse... brilliant ball possession, good goal blockage, wonderful defense and brilliant attacking strategy... a wonderful match! One hardly see all this drama from other teams...Hoping for a German vs. German final though, because of the German creative attacking strategies is always wonderful to watch and it'll be as if Cinderella vs. retribution story

  18. Ok, first of all, refereeing was simply awful, as has become a norm due to FIFA mafiosi blocking video replays. Second, Villanova should leave. He was only walking there looking sad and failed to react to match events. Third, barcelona players are way too short which seriously hampers their defence and attack. 4th, new players aee needed, away with valdes, better defenders etc. That might help.
