Zidane’s son Enzo scores a screamer

Zinedine Zidane's son showed he is a chip off the old block with a stunning goal for Real Madrid's youth team against city rivals Atletico.

Enzo Fernandez (who does not use his father's surname in a bid to deflect away attention) scored the belting 30-yard strike in a 5-2 derby win.

Enzo is now 17 but he has been touted as a fantastic prospect for a few years now, not least because he shares his DNA with one of the greatest footballers who has ever walked the planet.

Last year Enzo was invited to train with the Real first team for the first time and competed alongside the likes of Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo, Brazil playmaker Kaka and Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Watching from the sidelines on that occasion was father Zinedine who is currently the director of football at Real.

Zidane has four sons with his wife Veronique and three of them are currently members of Real Madrid youth teams.

However, the big issue which has particularly frightened the French media, is what national team Enzo will choose to play for if he proves to be even half as good as his father?

While Zidane was the superstar that inspired France to their only World Cup triumph in 1998 and then to the 2006 final, Enzo could instead choose to play for Spain where he has lived for most of his life.

He has already been called up to the Spanish U15 squad, and Zinedine has already said he will not stand in his son's way should he choose to declare for the World and European Champions.

"I do not like talking about it, but when one of the national teams calls him, we will decide which one to play for," Zidane said back in 2010.

"If Spain comes calling, fine, and if France calls, the same. The important thing now is that he enjoys playing for Real Madrid."

If Enzo, who is named after former Uruguay international Enzo Francescoli, keeps scoring goals like the one above then the tug-of-war is only set to intensify.
