Racegoers at Brighton on Wednesday were stunned, according to a newspaper report, when the 7.10pm race at the evening meeting was very nearly won by a giant seagull.
Sadly, the Sussex photobomber came up short as the hilarious photo finish picture shows.
The Daily Telegraph and Racing Post reported that the bird didn't just swoop into the photo finish snap, but actually flew up the final furlongs.
"It flew home up the final stretch and clearly beat the next horse by a long beak," reported the Racing Post's Lee McKenzie.
"Pity it wasn't on the next race on the card, which was won by Byrd in Hand from Hawk Moth."
Almost as funny as the photo finish picture was the official explanation from Brighton racecourse spokesman George Hill, who managed to make everyone laugh with his assessment.
"We are about a mile and a half from the sea," he explained.
"There are a lot of seagulls around."
Good spot there, George, who also pointed out that, "the bird just happened to be in the right place at the right time."
Indeed, it most certainly did! We think it's got to be one of the best photobombs of all time given its absolutely impeccable timing.
