Ball-girl impersonations, missed smashes and silly moments

Victoria Azarenka demonstrated her hilarious banter as she impersonated a ball-girl, and that was only one of the funny moments from day six of the Australian Open.

Azarenka, who tends to be despised by the Melbourne crowd on account of her loud grunting, long toilet breaks and other antics, instead managed to charm the spectators with her humorous role-play.

Having disposed of Yvonne Meusburger, losing just one game in the process, Azarenka showed what she had been saving her energy for - a crazy stint of on-court comedy.

As a charm offensive it may yet end up working for the 24-year-old, who is chasing a hat-trick of titles Down Under this year.

Alize Cornet was clearly determined not to leave all the fun and games to Azarenka - only her effort was definitely not on purpose.

The French player dictated a point against Maria Sharapova very impressively before forcing the Russian into floating up a poor lob which she only had to smash away into an open court.

The only problem? Cornet proceeded to miss the ball entirely. Very embarrasing.

However, Cornet spared her blushes somewhat with an exquisitely-crafted point which left Sharapova utterly bewildered.

She could not win through as Sharapova prevailed, but it was quite a rollercoaster day for the French woman.

Rafael Nadal did not waste too much time in swiping aside Gael Monfils, and this shot was definitely the highlight of a match that was otherwise overshadowed by the lurid yellow and red outfits.

Eurosport expert Greg Rusedski said "this is the best anyone has played at these championships so far" and who is anyone to disagree with this kind of play?
