For once, this was not a limp failure from England but a bombastic, all action and youthful defeat; defeat all the same, mind.
While the emphasis in the wake of this defeat should have been on the impressive nature of England’s performance, it was, in fact, heavily focused on one man.
No not Wayne Rooney’s pretty anonymous performance, but the rather numbing nature of one Philip Neville.
Phil Neville. The real life Boring Milner.

Maybe it was the nerves that got the better of Phil. Maybe if England scored, he would suddenly jolt in to life. Or, maybe not.
Let’s just hope that it wasn’t Phil who was giving the motivational chats during David Moyes’s reign as Manchester United manager. Such was Neville’s malaise, England physio Gary Lewin took to trying to extract some excitement from Phil, but he went to extremes.
Can't believe my old Physio Gary lewin being stretchered off. 1st time that's ever happened. Hope he knows what to do. Ice 1st Gary!!! — Ray Parlour (@RealRomfordPele) June 14, 2014
Neville’s co-commentator Guy Mowbray took up the slack for Phil.
Mowbray: "Thoughts with Gary [Lewin] at the moment." He's injured his leg. — James Dall (@JamesDallESPN) June 14, 2014
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but not in this case. Such was Neville’s boring demeanour, it spawned a new Twitter account - @BoringNev:
A player just took a shot. He missed. It was close. Might have a Horlicks. — Boring Phil Neville (@BoringNev) June 14, 2014
Well done lads. We play another team next game.

Despite their 3-0 win over Greece, one man remains at the forefront of Colombian minds.

This picture was apparently taken in Armenia? Colombians enjoying their World Cup. And why not.
