Less than an hour after Germany had secured their fourth World Cup following a 1-0 extra-time win over Argentina at the Maracana Stadium, Lukas Podolski took to the pitch to practice penalties on the hallowed turf.
Whilst his team-mates continued to bask in the glory of securing their nation’s first World Cup in 24 years, the Arsenal player opted to take son Louis onto the pitch to do what Germans do best.
On a night that seemed like nothing would get past Germany – perhaps not even sentiment – Lukas did his very best to thwart his son’s efforts from 12 yards.
And while it initially looks like the Germany international had palmed Louis’s effort around the post, upon closer inspection it appears that the ball creeps in at the near post and through the back of the net-less goal.
