Brendan Rodgers described Raheem Sterling as "the best young player in Europe" after Liverpool's win over Norwich and for one week at least the stats certainly bear that out.

Sterling's two goals, one assist and fine dribbling skills see him fly into Opta's European Team of the Week – one of four Premier League players to make the XI.

In goal is Sunderland's Vito Mannone who was in inspired form for Sunderland as they picked up an unexpected three points at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey and Everton's Leighton Baines also make the line-up after fine performances against Hull City and Manchester United respectively.

Elsewhere, there are two players from France, two from Germany and one each from Italy, Russia and Spain.

The star performer of the weekend might just have been Mali striker Cheick Diabate who scored an 18 minute hat-trick in Bordeaux's 5-1 win over Guingamp.
