The Champions League group stage draw takes places at 16:45 (British time) today and the pots have been confirmed as follows.

[LIVE VIDEO AND TEXT COVERAGE OF THE DRAW FROM 16:45]

Champions League group stage draw pots

Pot One: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, FC Porto

Pot Two: Schalke, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Basel, Zenit St Petersburg, Manchester City

Pot Three: Bayer Leverkusen, Olympiacos, CSKA Moscow, Ajax, Liverpool, Sporting Lisbon, Galatasaray, Athletic Bilbao

Pot Four: Anderlecht, AS Roma, Ludogorets Razgrad, APOEL, BATE Borisov, Maribor, AS Monaco, Malmo

Each team has a club and a country coefficient which factors into where they are seeded in the draw.

Clubs are judged on how well they have performed in Europe over the last five seasons, as well as how other clubs from that country have done over the course of that same period.

That explains why Chelsea and Arsenal, who have been in the Champions League group stage for each of the last five seasons, are seeded above Manchester City and Liverpool, despite finishing below them in the Premier League last season.

It does however also mean that there could be some incredibly tough groups to negotiate when the draw is finished.

Teams from the same country cannot be drawn in the same group which means Manchester City and Liverpool are guaranteed to be drawn with one of the following top seeds: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Atletico Madrid, FC Porto.
