Yaya Toure has had a sensational season for Manchester City, but the true nature of his feat has been highlighted by a remarkable statistic.

The Ivory Coast star, whose future at City is in some doubt after a very public falling-out over his birthday, managed to trump all of the top strikers across all Europe's top leagues in front of goal.

While our exclusive infographic below shows Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo were the joint top scorers, neither could match Toure for his accuracy and efficiency.

Toure scored with every 2.5 shots on average, while his nearest challengers, Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa and Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge, managed 4.

The great Lionel Messi averaged 5.7 shots per goal, meaning Toure was more than twice as efficient as one of the all-time greats.

If Manchester City have a look at these stats, they may well rue their failure to get their most important player the birthday cake he felt he deserved.
