Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has always had a reputation as something of a hot-head but now he knows how his respective managers must have felt during his career.

It has come to light that Rooney has been forced to turn to a horse whisperer in an attempt to calm his naughty nag Announcement, which apparently has “psychological issues”.

The remarkable news comes to us via Saturday’s Sun, which details how the Premier League’s highest-paid player has recruited expert Gary Witheford to help with the horse’s behavioural issues.

According to Witheford, Announcement has even badly injured one of its trainers.

“It would be an understatement to say she was highly strung,” he told The Sun. “She has been really bad.

“Last week she even broke someone's nose.”

A clear sending-off offence – and Rooney has been guilty of a few of those himself – but rather than get the hairdryer out the striker has shown his burgeoning horse- management skills by attempting to correct the horse’s behaviour, and it could now be racing later this month.

According to the paper, Rooney only purchased the three-year-old in April and co-owns the horse with team-mates Michael Carrick and Jonny Evans, as well as Sunderland captain John O’Shea.

His previous two horses – named Pippy (below) and Switcherooney – both had to retire after a string of poor racing results.
