Doncaster have announced they are in talks over a proposed takeover amid reports One Direction star Louis Tomlinson wants to buy the club.

The Doncaster-born singer and lifelong fan is registered as a player for Rovers and played for their reserve team in February.

He is now reportedly keen to link up with former chairman John Ryan and launch a buy-out of the club, who have just been relegated to Sky Bet League One.

And on Friday afternoon a statement from the club confirmed: "Following reports in the media, the owners of Doncaster Rovers can confirm that they have been approached and dialogue has taken place with external parties about a proposed takeover.

"At this stage the club is not in a position to comment further about the level and detail of those discussions, but will do so as soon as it is legally possible.

"The owners are looking to ensure a swift resolution to the discussions to ensure that this does not impact adversely on the summer transfer activity.

"Any decision made by the current owners will focus on for what is best for Doncaster Rovers in both the short and long term."
