It would have been very understandable if Torquay United boss Chris Hargreaves had stormed off in frustration after his side slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Hartlepool.

The result left Torquay rooted to the bottom of the League Two table after yet another desperate loss, so he had every reason to feel annoyed and not particularly sociable.

So it was all the more remarkable that he decided to buy every single Gulls fan who made the 800-mile round-trip to the North East a beer.

Hargreaves modestly admitted that he 'gave a couple of fans £20 to get themselves a pint on the way home' because it was 'the least he could do', but the extent of his generosity was later revealed on social media.

Long suffering Torquay fan Thomas Kelly, for example, claimed to be one of the grateful recipients of Hargreaves's gesture.

Pep Guardiola gets the beers in at Oktoberfest

The 41-year-old Football League boss has now invited 91 loyal fans of the club who made the journey up to Hartlepool from Devon to join him for a beer during a Q&A session at a pub in Torquay.

It is perhaps time that some Premier League bosses took note of his gesture and endeared themselves to some of their hardy supporters.

We're looking at you in particular, Jose.
