Japan centre Shotaro Onishi landed a conversion from the sideline three minutes into stoppage time to earn his team a thrilling 12-12 draw with Canada in their World Cup Pool B match on Tuesday. More
84' Ref blows for full-time. What an end to the game! Well played Japan for coming back as they did and refusing to to give up! Thanks for joining us for another terrific match.
84' He's done it. Onishi has nailed the conversion from near the touchline. An incredible finish! What a kick! 12-12. Good on Onishi.
83' Japan are pounding Canada's line but they're defending for their lives and keeping them out. Japan regroup and get a rolling maul going. They're one metre from the line. O'Reilly has a go and Taira eventually goes over. Amazing stuff at the death!!!! 12-10. But they still need the conversion to get something from this game!
81' Robins chips into Canada corner but the defence covers well as a number of players are bundled into the hoardings. Ref has gone upstairs, but it looks like Canada have managed to hold on. But ref has awarded penalty to Japan and they have one last chance!
79' Canada win lineout and their forwards eat up the seconds. Smith smashes the ball directly into touch but there's time for another lineout. Robins makes some ground. Again Spicer's defence is strong. The Asians spill the ball and van der Merwe finds touch. That has to be it as the clock has gone past 80 minutes but Japan are allowwed to take lineout. Japan win another penalty for hands in a ruck.
76' Japan spin it and they're almost through in the midfield. O'Reilly keeps the move going as ref blows for a penalty against Canada. Japan opt for scrum and spread the ball. But Spicer's defence is good and Japan are whistled for holding on. That's probably it for Japan.
75' Time is running out for the Brave Blossoms and they must take advantage of their scrum in Canada half. Nice move in the backs move Japan deep into Canada's 22m area. They recycle again and Taira goes close. Scrum to Japan 5m from Canada's line.
66' Beautiful kick from Pritchard makes it 12-5 with just under 15 minutes to go.
64' Webb picks up at number eight and makes a burst for the line. But he's driven backwards. Canada regroup and launch another drive. Again the defence from Japan is superb and they force a turnover. But they then concede penalty for not releasing, Williams takes a quick tap and produces an inch perfect cross-kick for van de Merwe to catch and sneak over in the corner. Well played! 10-5.
62' Williams tries to go blind again but he's well tackled. Canada recycle and their forwards drive at the line. Kleeberger is held up again and the ref goes upstairs. Scrum 5 Canada again!
60' 20 minutes to go and there's nothing between these two sides. One mistake or one moment of genius is likely to settle this one. Could it be from Williams who chips ahead and manages to regather as the ball goes over, but it has Japan's skipper Miuchi attached to it as well! Looks like a scrum 5 to Canada! Big moment this for Canada!
50' Kim on for Yoshida. He did well against Wales. Can he make an impact on this game?
47' Canada's forwards asking questions of Japan's defence now as they drive the ball to within a metre of their tryline. Japan concede penalty and the Canuks kick for corner and another linout. James takes it well and the drive starts again and this time Riordan gets the ball down for his first international try. Well played and good response from Riordan after his earlier yellow card. 5-5.
46' Dan Pletch on for Snow at prop.
41' Smith kicks off for Canada.
34' Great tackling from the Asians but Canada retain possession and keep the pressure on. This time it's a penalty to Japan for Canada holding on. And Riordan is issued with a yellow card!
33' Big up and under from Robins is well taken by Pyke, who beats his tackler and sets off down the left. Canada win penalty for Japan coming in at the side and kick for touch in Japan's 22m area.
12' Endo is clear again, he's off and he's over for another superb try. Japan pinched the lineout and Endo bounced off the tackle of Canada's Smith and then powerered his way to the line, leaving the Canadian cover for dead. Great effort! 5-0.
1' Japan's Robins gets the game underway. Neither team can make progress so they are playing for pride tonight.| Canada | versus | Japan |
