World Cup - McGhee named as Strachan's assistant

Former Aberdeen and Motherwell manager Mark McGhee has been appointed as assistant to Scotland manager Gordon Strachan.

The pair have been close friends since playing together for Aberdeen in the early 1980s and McGhee was available after being sacked as Bristol Rovers manager last month.

McGhee, who won four Scotland caps, told the Scottish Football Association website: "I am immensely proud and honoured to be asked by Gordon to assist him as national coach."
