The 25-year-old from Northern Ireland won a final frame decider against the four-time world champion to reach the last 64 of the tournament which serves as the fifth event of the European PTC.
Brown then continued his good form with a 4-0 victory in the second round against Mark Vincent but exited the tournament in the third round 4-2 against Ryan Day.
Day will face Ken Doherty in the last 16 after he beat Luca Brecel - the Belgian teenager ousted by eventual UK Championship finalist Shaun Murphy in a dramatic quarter-final in York - 4-1 in round three.
Six-times world champion Steve Davis will play Ding Junhui after he beat world number seven Stephen Maguire 4-2. Ding triumphed 4-3 over twice world champion Mark Williams.
The tournament concludes on Sunday.
