Del Neri replaced Luigi De Canio in October but managed to win only two of his 13 games in charge to leave the club in 18th place in Serie A.
“Genoa CFC announce that Coach Luigi Del Neri has been removed from his post,” read a club statement.
“The club thanks Mr Del Neri, along with his staff of collaborators Conti, D’Angelo and Alimonta for their efforts in this period.”
Genoa have moved swiftly to appoint Ballardini, who previously led Genoa to 10th in the table in the 2010-11 season.
