Ebdon and Trump traded the opening two frames on the final black before the veteran edged the prodigy in a tactical third.
Trump took control from there, however, clearing to 131 for parity once more before runs to 27 and 47 were enough to clinch the next two frames and the victory.
Earlier in the night, Stuart Bingham also won by four frames to two against Ding Junhui.
Taking the first frame with a 75 break, Bingham doubled his advantage before a 54 and 73 from the Chinese star pegged him back.
Another 75 put Bingham back in the lead before a 50 sealed his very first win of the season and moved the Essex man above Ding into second in Group A.
