Suarez to stay put, Rooney to Arsenal: The Daily Mirror are reporting that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will focus all of his efforts on securing the signature of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, with reports suggesting that Luis Suarez has kissed and made up at Liverpool after the player was allowed to rejoin the first team’s training. Wenger has said that he would like “two or three” more signings this summer – Rooney being his number one target.
Paper Round’s view: Arsenal are determined to sign another striker before the end of the transfer window but this doesn’t look like happening. Especially considering that David Moyes continues to insist Rooney will be staying put.

Moyes confident of Fellaini capture: Staying with United, the Daily Mail suggests that David Moyes is increasingly confident of signing Marouane Fellaini. The Scot managed Fellaini while he was in charge of Everton, with the Belgian frequently linked with a move to a club that could offer him Champions League football. And it now appears that the 25-year-old could realise his dream of playing in Europe’s premier club competition amid speculation that the Manchester United boss will move for his former player.
Paper Round’s view: It really wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if this one did happen. Fellaini’s £23million buy-out clause expired at the end of July, meaning that Everton could play hardball if they wanted to do so and hold out for a significantly higher fee. But with the Belgian more-than-likely keen on a move to Manchester, the Merseyside club probably won’t stand in his way if they receive an acceptable offer.

Chelsea to consider Eto’o if Rooney bid fails: Jose Mourinho will turn to his former Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o if he is unable to sign Wayne Rooney from Manchester United. Cameroonian Eto’o currently plays for Russian side Anzhi Makachkala who recently announced that their whole squad was up for sale due to financial strife. 32-year-old Eto’o excelled during his time playing for Mourinho in Italy and, according to the Daily Mail, would love to join up with the Portuguese once more.
Paper Round’s view: Seeing Samuel Eto’o ply his trade in the Premier League is something that would excite all football fans. But it probably comes a couple of years too late. The Cameroon striker obviously still has a great deal to offer but, after two years in Russia, does he still have enough passion for the game to replicate the sort of form that saw him score 108 times for Barcelona in 145 appearances?
Defoe to join former boss Redknapp at QPR: The Daily Star reports that QPR boss Harry Redknapp is keen on taking Jermain Defoe to Loftus Road after dismissing reports linking his side with a move for Estudiantes striker Duvan Zapata. Redknapp has worked with Defoe whilst in charge of West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham so is fully aware of the attributes Defoe possesses. Redknapp will be looking at Defoe’s impressive goalscoring record at both club and international levels as he aims to secure an instant return to the Premier League with QPR.
Paper Round’s view: Defoe didn’t have the best of campaigns in a Spurs shirt last season and, therefore, may look for a move elsewhere. He obviously has a good relationship with Redknapp so this could well happen. Whether the player wants to drop down into the Championship with the World Cup just around the corner may be a big issue, though.
