A stunning strike from Fabian Delph gave Aston Villa a 3-2 win over Southampton in the Premier League.
Delph fired a 30-yard-effort into the top corner 10 minutes from time in a thrilling game. Villa had led twice through Gabriel Agbonlahor and Libor Kozak but Jay Rodriguez and Danny Osvaldo hit back for the Saints.
The home side enjoyed most of the possession in the first half with Rodriguez’s swerving shot from 25 yards pushed onto the post by Brad Guzan early on.
But they fell behind when Agbonlahor dribbled into the box and beat his marker before coolly slotting the ball in with Villa’s first attack.
The Saints continued to dominate with Rodriguez’s header palmed away from Guzan.
Their possession was rewarded soon after the break when Rodriguez’s header from Nathaniel Clyne’s cross flew into the corner.
But Villa regained the lead when Karim El Ahmadi’s cross from the right was headed in by Kozak.
Their lead lasted just five minutes though as Osvaldo headed in Rickie Lambert’s tee-up to make it 2-2.
But Villa hit back when Delph fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner to seal victory for the visitors.
