First, the Uruguayan strolled past two Baggies shirts, nutmegged a stationary Jonas Olsson and rolled the ball past Boaz Myhill for the opener before he doubled Liverpool’s lead when he superbly arrowed a header into the top corner from the edge of the area.
The Liverpool domination continued after the restart, Suarez grabbing his third when he flicked home Steven Gerrard’s free-kick, but West Brom grabbed an unlikely goal through James Morrison from the penalty spot after Billy Jones went to ground in the box.
Daniel Sturridge nonchalantly chipped the ball over Myhill to add a sublime fourth as Liverpool saw out an impressive victory to rise to second in the league.
12’ – GOAL: Liverpool 1-0 West Brom. Suarez is faced with a wall of West Brom shirts but, undeterred, dribbles past two, pops it through the legs of another and rolls it into the bottom corner. Wonderful stuff.
17’ – GOAL: Liverpool 2-0 West Brom. Suarez again! He knocks the ball left, loiters on the edge of the area and heads the resulting cross from Cissokho into the top corner from 18 yards. That is sensational.
27’ – TERRIBLE MISS: Instead of shooting, Suarez rolls his free-kick down the side of the penalty area and picks out Gerrard. The skipper pulls it back to Skrtel. Must score... No! The defender swings his right foot, the ball strikes his left and bounces clear. Comical miss.
55’ – GOAL: Liverpool 3-0 West Brom: Gerrard whips in a free-kick from the left and who's there to flick home? Yep, you guessed it. Suarez completes his hat-trick. Surely that's game over.
59’ – CROSSBAR: Sturridge is desperate to get on the scoresheet. He shifts the ball onto his left foot and unleashes a thunderous strike at goal which smashes the underside of the bar.
65’ – PENALTY - GOAL - Liverpool 3-1 West Brom: Jones saunters into the penalty area and goes down under an innocuous challenge. No real appeal, play continues, but the assistant belatedly signals for a penalty. Looks soft. Morrison thumps it home.
77’ – GOAL: Liverpool 4-1 West Brom: Sturridge floats through the West Brom ranks, spots Myhill off his line and floats the cheekiest of lobs over the stopper into the net. Arguably the pick of the bunch.
82’ – CROSSBAR: Suarez, with his back to goal, launches into an acrobatic attempt at goal. Stunning save from Myhill, who tips it onto the bar! This is a privilege to watch.
Luis Suarez notched his fourth hat-trick for Liverpool – but this was his first at Anfield.
Suarez’s three goals take him to 16 Premier League goals in only 18 matches in 2013.
TALKING POINT: Are this Liverpool side top four material? With Manchester United struggling slightly, a vacancy may have appeared amongst the Premier League big boys. If they can keep Suarez and Sturridge fit then this is a team capable of rivalling any in England. The question is: can they repeat this sort of performance against the sides near the top?
