Swansea City kept up their impressive start to the season after cruising to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Victory for Swansea capped off a fine week that was them draw with Liverpool before beating Valencia 3-0 away in the Europa League. For Palace, a fourth defeat leaves them one off the foot of the table with only one point from their opening five games.
Any thoughts that Swansea may be a little jaded by having to play three matches in the space of a week were dispelled almost immediately as Michu slotted home barely two minutes in after being set up by Jonjo Shelvey.
It was Michu’s second of the season with Swansea now having scored the quickest two Premier League goals of this campaign.
Swansea kept up the pressure and again caught Palace napping at the start of the second half, debutant Alvaro Vazquez laying it back to Dyer to side-foot home.
PRE-MATCH: Ian Holloway springs a bit of a surprise by leaving Dwight Gayle on the bench. For Swansea, skipper Ashley Williams has overcome an ankle injury to start but Wilfried Bony, who scored against Valencia, was left on the bench with Alvaro Vasquez getting his chance.
2’ – GOAL: Palace 0-1 Swansea: Jonjo Shelvey pokes it through and it reaches Michu via a slight deflection from Adrian Mariappa but the Spaniard makes no mistake to rifle home.
3’ – CHANCE: It should be 2-0 to Swansea but Chico Flores somehow hits the post from a yard out from Shelvey’s corner instead of scoring.
24’ – CHANCE: Michu should score again but for some reason opts for a cheeky flick to Vazquez and the chance is gone..
37’ – SAVE: It’s a cracking effort from Angel Rangel on the volley and it forces a fine save from Julian Speroni diving to his right.
48’ – GOAL: Palace 0-2 Swansea: Michu finds Vasquez who shoots at Speroni. He saves but if falls back to Vasquez who finds Dyer to slam home.
86’ – CHANCE: Pozuelo plays in Michu but the ball gats tangled between his legs just before he can pull the trigger.
Swansea have scored the two quickest goals in the PL this season.
Only Andrea Orlandi (for Swansea) has scored a quicker PL goal (one minute) by a Spanish player than Michu (one minutes). David Silva for Man City and Gaizka Mendieta for Middlesbrough have also scored after two minutes in the PL.
TALKING POINT: How can Holloway turn things around? Palace looked totally toothless up front and devoid of ideas. A bit of a mystery why it took so long for Dwight Gayle to come on.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Michu (Swansea City): Scored the opener and could easily have had a hat-trick on another day. Ran the Palace defence ragged and held the ball up well. Was at the centre of all of Swansea’s best moves.
