Lukaku opened the scoring, stroking the ball past Brad Guzan at the near post from Osman’s pass on 68 minutes. 10 minutes from time, Osman doubled the lead after a neat finish from a Gareth Barry pull-back.
Aston Villa had the best chance of the first half, as Christian Benteke had his penalty saved by Tim Howard after he was fouled by Seamus Coleman. Benteke also wasted a chance on 23 minutes after being put through by Aleksandar Tonev.
Everton struck back with a long-range Ross Barkley strike deflected onto the crossbar, and Lukaku squeezed past two defenders only to shoot gently towards Guzan. In the most-played game in English football history, Everton deservedly came away victorious.
