Paterson, a surprise substitute against Brighton at the weekend, has agreed with his country to continue his rehabilitation at Turf Moor as he recovers from a minor hamstring tear.
Paterson's fitness will be assessed later this week before he decides whether to make himself available for the qualifier at home to Luxembourg on September 11.
