Paris St-Germain moved to the Ligue 1 summit with a 2-0 victory over Bordeaux at Stade Chaban-Delmas after goals from Blaise Matuidi and Lucas Moura.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s clever pass split the home defence which afforded Matuidi the time to prod home on the half hour after his weak initial effort was saved.
Bordeaux started the second half strongly and were denied a penalty when the ball struck Thiago Silva’s arm and it was to prove costly as PSG soon doubled their advantage in comical circumstances.
Moura latched onto a pass down the right flank as the Bordeaux defence crumbled before keeper Cedric Carrasso bizarrely leapt out the Brazilian’s path which allowed him to tap into an empty net.
Ibrahimovic spurned two late chances to add a third, with substitute Adrien Rabiot also wasting an opportunity when through on goal.
PSG came into the game in the knowledge that victory would send them top of Ligue 1 for at least 24 hours but it was the hosts who started brightly, winning every 50-50 and putting their opponents on the back foot.
For all their early dominance though, Bordeaux couldn’t fashion an opening and the reigning champions soon grew into the match with Ibrahimovic dropping deep to link up play and Moura wriggling through the challenges.
The opening goal arrived on the half hour with the Swedish striker heavily involved. Ibrahimovic played a neat one-two before slotting a pass through the Bordeaux defence to find Matuidi and although the midfielder tamely struck his effort at Carrasso he was in so much space he could run beyond the keeper to poke home the rebound.
Bordeaux rarely threatened for the rest of the half, aside from a couple of long-range sighters, as PSG retained possession confidentially.
The hosts flew out after the restart and were adamant they should have had an early penalty when the ball struck Silva’s arm in the box but the referee was unmoved. It was to prove a costly decision as moments later PSG notched their second goal.
Moura broke through the home defence, after being played onside by Lucas Orban, before Carrasso inexplicably dived out the Brazilian’s way to allow him the simplest of finishes.
The goal extinguished any hope of a fight back from the hosts as PSG poured forward in an attempt to add to their goals tally.
Carrasso made a smart double stop from Ibrahimovic and Lucas Digne, before tipping over a lobbed effort from the Swedish striker as gaps started to appear across the Bordeaux backline.
Rabiot lifted over when well-placed late on and Ibrahimovic blasted into the side netting as Bordeaux managed to escape with just a two goal defeat.
