Reports last week were that the RFEF had put into writing a request to FIFA to ratify that they can pick the Atletico Madrid striker for La Roja, despite him having played twice this year in friendlies for his country of birth, Brazil.
With the Spain squad for World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Georgia to be announced this Friday, head Coach Del Bosque confirmed that they are awaiting an answer on Costa’s availability.
“I cannot confirm anything yet,” began Del Bosque in conversation with La Sexta. “There is a process to see if he can play for Spain and that process is what is happening now.
"The squad will be called on Friday, we shall see.
“I know that right now everyone is awaiting news on Diego Costa, but this is a process.”
Costa scored the only goal of Atletico's stunning derby win at Real Madrid this weekend.
