The former Malaga B coach was named as the new director on Friday, and in a press conference the former striker insisted that success will take time.
The 54-year-old called for patience while outlining his reasons for taking the job and what he believes he can achieve.
“We need to give this Malaga some time,” he told reporters. “It’s different club now - when I left six months ago I had to take lots of decisions in a very short space of time, and I thought it was a time for a break.
“I took a decision that I believed was right. Now I’m joining something that is already working.
“My relationship with the club has always been good and perfect.
“I’m full of enthusiasm to be here. I’ve signed for this season and three more.
“It’s a linear contract without clauses. I appreciate the unanimity that there’s been regarding my arrival, and I will try and do my absolute best. I’m coming here with all the will to fulfil the contract and I believe that I can bring things to the club.”
