New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho goes up against his most recent ex-employers in the final of the International Champions Cup in the early hours of Thursday night, but Luiz will not be taking part.
Chelsea said on Twitter: "While the other lads trained, @DavidLuiz_4 completed his own workout. He won't play against Real tomorrow."
The club then noted that the official reason for missing the contest is a small hamstring problem, which also caused him to sit out the friendly against AC Milan.
But now reports persist that Real’s Liga rivals Barcelona have prepared a £35 million offer.
The Catalonians have been linked with the centre-back all summer as they seek to bolster their defensive ranks.
They are also reportedly monitoring two other Premier League defenders – Liverpool’s Daniel Agger and Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany.
