Barcelona continued their fine start to the season with a dramatic 3-2 win as they maintained their 100 per cent record in La Liga – despite coming up against a determined Sevilla.
Alexis Sanchez scored an injury time goal to ensure the three points at the Camp Nou despite Coke Andujar equalising for Sevilla just a minute previously.
It took the reigning league champions 36 minutes to break the deadlock when substitute Adriano – who replaced the injured Jordi Alba – found Dani Alves at the back post and his header found the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Messi – who had a relatively quiet game up to this point – doubled Barcelona’s advantage following a superb pass from Neymar with 75 minutes on the clock.
Sevilla then had a goal controversially ruled out for a foul as Calla was adjudged to have fouled Gerard Pique.
The visitors weren’t to be denied though as captain Rakitic reduced the deficit before Coke Andujar levelled when he found himself unmarked at a corner in stoppage time.
But the night belonged to Messi and Barcelona as the Argentine breezed past his marker to drag the ball back for Sanchez who buried the ball home much to the delight of the home fans.
