Hugo Campagnaro's unforgettable late volley earned Napoli a share of the points as they drew 1-1 in an outstanding Serie A clash against Lazio at Rome's Stadio Olimpico.
Lazio had dictated the game for the first hour, but their only reward was Sergio Floccari's 11th minute strike.
That looked set to be the only goal of a magnificent match that saw chance after chance at both ends and some outrageous goalkeeping.
But Campagnaro's flying volley from a corner with three minutes left gave Napoli a draw which leaves them five points behind Juventus - and Lazio a further six points adrift.
Lazio came into the match on the back of three games without a win, and the home side came out of the blocks at a blistering pace looking determined to end that run.
And just 11 minutes in they went ahead deservedly as Abdoulay Konko's beautiful run to the right corner finished with a terrific cross back into the box that found Floccari unmarked by the penalty spot. The veteran controlled the ball brilliantly on his chest, deflecting it down to his left foot and then striking cleanly past Morgan De Sanctis into the bottom right corner.
Lazio had great chances to extend their lead as they dominated, with Antonio Candreva's 18th minute shot turned desperately around the right post by De Sanctis and Floccari leaving the crossbar rattling - and De Sanctis rooted to the spot - with an outrageously powerful free kick from 35 yards on the half-hour mark.
The woodwork was shaking at the other end as Napoli got back into the match, Edinson Cavani's perfect header from a cross by the lively Juan Camilo Zuniga clattering into the bar and bouncing straight down before being collected. The goal-line official ruled correctly that it had not crossed the line.
Lazio still could have gone in 2-0 up as Hernanes's free kick forced a beautiful top corner save by De Sanctis with almost the last kick of a scintillating half.
And it was hearts-in-mouths yet again for Napoli five minutes into the second half as Giuseppe Biava had a header in the net before the goal was ruled out for offside.
As the match progressed Lazio sat back more - a risky strategy that almost bit them as Cavani's side-on volley just after the hour mark forced a good stop from Federico Marchetti at almost point-blank range.
Lazio should have sealed the points when sub Senad Lulic went in one-on-one on the Napoli goalkeeper, but his shot was weak and straight at De Sanctis.
Yet the miss seemed relatively unimportant at the time, and when Fabio Cannavaro's blistering effort was tipped over be Marchetti with two minutes left it still seemed that Napoli were fated to lose.
But Campagnaro met the resulting corner with an incredible mid-air, round-house volley that rocketed into the top corner to secure a share of the points.
Both sides still enjoyed chances to decide the match, with Goran Pandev producing another superb save from Marchetti and Floccari rattling the crossbar for the second time in the match.
The game finished 1-1, however, a draw which does neither team much good in the title race, but was just reward for both sides after a scintillating display.
