He was due to fly back to San Jose for further evaluation and potential treatment, according to a report in the San Jose Mercury News.
Boyle was hit from behind by St. Louis' Maxim Lapierre with a forearm check and was sent face-first into the left corner boards while trying to retrieve the puck. Boyle remained on the ice for several minutes before he was carted off.
Lapierre is suspended until the league conducts a review of the hit.

Clowe has a history of head injuries. He had three concussions last season while playing for the San Jose Sharks and the Rangers.
San Jose Sharks forward Brent Burns will not face a disciplinary hearing from the NHL for Tuesday's hit on Brenden Morrow of the St. Louis Blues.
A NHL spokesman said that the league had already looked into the play and chose not to take any action, according to a report by Pro Hockey Talk.
Burns' hit knocked Morrow out of the game at 16:07 of the first period and received a boarding minor penalty. However, Morrow returned to play more than five minutes in the second period and three minutes in the third.
Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane suffered an unspecified injury during Wednesday morning's practice, according to NHL.com, less than 12 hours after the Jets were shut out by the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday night 3-0.
The report said Kane was favouring his right leg and did not return to the ice for the remainder of practice after he went to the locker room for examination and treatment.
Kane reportedly either got tangled up or crashed into fellow forward Anthony Peluso.
Jets coach Claude Noel said after practice that Kane, who is tied for the team scoring lead with three goals, is "day-to-day."
The Jets' next game is on Friday, when they host the St. Louis Blues.
