Paterson has been pencilled in for a run out when the second string face Mansfield at St George's Park on Wednesday afternoon.
The 23-year-old Scot, who has scored three goals in npower League Two this season, has been sidelined for three weeks with a groin strain.
The game at the National Football Centre will kick-off at 2pm.
