The Spaniard went under the knife in Barcelona last week to repair a damaged meniscus and is expected to be sidelined for a month.
He told the club website: "The doctor I went to see is regarded as one of the best in Europe so although it was disappointing that I had to undergo surgery, I was in the best hands.
"I picked up the injury at the start of the season and although I was hoping rest would cure the problem, I was told I would risk further damage if I didn't have surgery.
"But everything went very well and already I am doing light exercises to help with my recovery.
"I will be back at the club this week to continue my rehabilitation and with another international break coming up soon, hopefully I won't miss too many matches."
