Football - Jol satisfied with draw

Fulham boss Martin Jol was disappointed his side could not hang on in the 2-2 draw at Sunderland but was satisfied to emerge with another point for their survival fund.

The Cottagers led 2-0 after 35 minutes through Dimitar Berbatov's audacious penalty and Sascha Riether's close-range finish.

However, Craig Gardner, who had conceded the spot-kick, dragged the Black Cats back into it when he too converted a penalty before the break and Stephane Sessegnon prevented his side from slipping to a fourth successive Barclays Premier League defeat when he fired home with 20 minutes remaining.

Jol said: "If they had beaten us they would have been on 32 points as well.

"If you look at Southampton, they are in the bottom four or five - if they had beaten QPR they would have been on 30 points, so everyone can be dragged into a very difficult situation.

"One one hand, it's a good point and on the other hand, three points would have meant we had done the business but we didn't."
