The 23-year-old, who initially joined Dale on loan in November, has penned a contract running until the end of the season at Spotland.
Gornell's loan spell, which produced a return of five goals in eight games, expired following last weekend's 1-0 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon but the former Accrington man is now available for Dale's trip to Dagenham this weekend.
