    Cycling - Omega's Maes injures collarbone

    Omega Pharma-Quick Step rider Nikolas Maes has fractured his left collarbone after a fall during training in Calpe, Spain.

    The 26-year-old Belgian will return home for tests at Herentals Clinic, with a decision as to whether or not the injury requires surgery expected on Wednesday. “It all happened in a fraction of a second,” Maes explained.

    “I was pedalling in the group with Boonen and Cavendish when suddenly my chain jumped the rails and I ended up on the ground. Right away I could tell something was wrong with my left shoulder.

    “Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens in our line of work. However, I’m going to try and think positive and I hope to get back in the saddle as soon as possible.” Maes signed for OPQS in 2010 after being omitted from Team RadioShack’s roster in 2009.
