Live Commentary

  1. - Pedrosa leads the riders' standing after two races with 41 points from Lorenzo (36) and Rossi (31). Stoner has 30, Dovizioso 21 and Toseland 20.

  9. 3' A battle there for fifth - Toseland may have pulled this out of the bag despite the lack of top speed on his bike. Suzuki's Capirossi will not give up fifth withiout a fight though.

  10. 4' Toseland into sixth and now looking to pass Capirossi for fifth!!!

  11. 5' STONER OFF AGAIN!!! The Qatar winner and reigning champ is struggling this week.

  12. 5' Hopkins past Vermuelen now... the Kawasaki rider is now eighth.

  13. 6' Rossi and Lorenzo breaking a bit from Hayden. 0.5 seconds between the pair... Home rider Lorenzo struggling for a chance against the legendary Italian.

  17. 10' Pedrosa out in front still, with Rossi close to a second ahead of Lorenzo. Not much between Lorenzo and Hayden and those following are 14 further seconds back.

  18. 11' Little change in the field. Rossi the only Bridgestone in the top places - it's all about Michelin so far today in this race.

  19. 12' World champion Stoner up into 11th while Marco Melandri is 13th.

  20. 13' Rossi holding off Lorenzo at present, but only just. There are four seconds between first and second and those behind are close together.

  21. 14' Pedrosa comfortably clear of Rossi. It looks like it could be a good weekend for Spain, with two riders potentially on the podium.

  22. 15' John Hopkins on the Kawasaki ninth behind the Briton.

  23. 16' Capirossi fifth from Andrea Dovizioso, Vermuelen and Toseland, who will be desperate for that new engine.

  24. 18' Hayden tearing around a left and chasing down Lorenzo. Two-hundredths the gap between Pedrosa and Rossi at the front.

  25. 19' Toseland is eighth behind Chris Vermuelen.

  26. 20' Rossi almost loses his bike completely, wobbling it on its back wheel - but he keep it going and does not lose his second position!

  27. 21' Edwards cannot continue after all and he returns to the garage.

  28. 22' Edwards crashes out!!! The Yamaha Tech 3 rider, team-mate of Toseland, will get it back up though...

  29. 23' Rossi took advantage of a slow corner from Lorenzo. Pedrosa one-and-a-half seconds ahead of the Italian.

  30. 24' Rossi, who holds the lap record here and has won the Spanish GP five times, moves ahead of Lorenzo into second!!!

  31. 24' Aussie Stoner will be furious after recovering those places after a frustrating qualifying session.

  32. 25' Stoner struggles around one corner but recovers - and later in the lap goes wide and into the gravel!!! He keeps the bike up and rejoins in last place!!!

  33. 26' The top three remains the same as Rossi shoots past Stoner into fourth and Edwards lurks behind them both.

  34. 27' Colin Edwards drops to fifth from third, with Valentino behind him. Loris Capirossi has risen behind him from 10th and Shinya Nakano is eighth.

  35. 27' Dani Pedrosa, the other Spanish rider, leads from Lorenzo!!! Nicky Hayden climbs to third from fourth at the start and Casey Stoner is up to fourth from seventh.

  36. 27' WE'RE GO GO GO!!!

  37. - We're on the warm-up lap. If Toseland has begun well, Lorenzo has stunned the MotoGP world with two poles this season out of two and second in the Qatar GP. Can he maintain that today?

  38. - On the grid twice World Superbike champion Toseland says he is feeling 10 times better than yesterday as we move to within 10 minutes of the start. His sixth place in Qatar was something to behold for a rookie rider. Can he better it here?

  39. - The sun is out and humidity is hovering about 38 percent, with wind speed around 6 km/h.

  40. - Briton James Toseland, team-mate of Edwards, is down in eighth. He has been unwell for a few days now.

  41. - Another Spaniard Dani Pedrosa of Honda will start in second, while Yamaha Tech 3's Colin Edwards makes up the front row of the grid.

  42. - Rookie Jorge Lorenzo of the Yamaha factory team smashed the Jerez track record for two wheels with 1:38.189 in qualifying.
