Live Commentary

  1. 0' Barbera is fifth, Debon sixth, Simon seventh and Roberto Locatelli eighth.

  2. 0' Takahashi completes the podium from Aoyama, who also powered up the field in the final stages.

  3. 0' Kallio crosses the line after passing the dust of his fallen rivals. And Pasini has risen like a demon through the last couple of laps to grab second! Where the devil did he come from?

  4. 1' THERE WAS NOTHING FOR HIM TO ATTACK AND HE WENT STRAIGHT INTO THE BACK OF BAUTISTA!!! They cannot get the bikes back onto the track and end with nothing! Kallio will win the Spanish GP!!

  5. 1' Simoncelli looking to pass Bautista... THEY'RE BOTH OFF INTO THE GRAVEL!!!!

  6. 2' A right battle between the two of them at the head of the field... Bautista back ahead of this rival!!! Simoncelli ought to concentrate on the road ahead of him instead of looking back!

  7. 3' Simoncelli looks behind him and Bautista lurks...

  8. 3' SIMONCELLI PAST BAUTISTA WITH ONLY THREE LAPS TO GO!!! Those soft tyres are not hindering him at all! Another close call between the bikes, only inches between their tyres.

  9. 4' LUTHI OFF HIS BIKE AND IN THE GRAVEL!!! He lost the bike on the right turn and the bike jumped - he tucked him arms in and rolled across and off the track!

  10. 5' Hiroshi Aoyama passed by Pasini. Debon ahead of him in seventh, then Barbera, Takahashi and Kallio in fourth of course.

  11. 6' Kallio moves back ahead of Luthi!!! We have a contest here for the final podium place to match the Bradl-Smith one in the 125s.

  12. 7' Pasini down into ninth again, things not going brilliantly for him this weekend... Luthi is now third, ahead of Kallio after snorting up the distance between them on the track. He took it easy in the first half of the race, the Swiss.

  13. 8' SIMONCELLI PAST BAUTISTA!!! He's been after that for a few laps!!! BUT BAUTISTA RIGHT BACK AT HIM AND RE-TAKES THE LEAD!!!

  14. 9' On the start-finish straight Bautista picks up the front tyre, a slow exit, and Simoncelli powers down his left side... he cannot quite get ahead...

  15. 10' Pasini continues to rise through the field now as Simoncelli looks to sneak down the inside and almost clashes with Bautista... a wobble on his bike is controlled. Phew!

  16. 11' No change in the top positions. Bautista holding off Simoncelli, who seems to be hankering after an opportunity to pass his rival...

  17. 12' Pasini up one place into ninth.

  18. 13' Simoncelli still tagged on Bautista's bum, but will those softs go the distance? Halfway through the race now.

  19. 14' Debon is behind Takahashi... not looking likely to improve either.

  20. 15' Luthi ahead of Barbera now after a nifty move on the right-bearing corner. Mattia Pasini, the winner in Qatar, only maintaining his starting position of 10th so far.

  21. 16' Luthi past Simon and chasing down Barbera now, with Kallio lengthening his lead over the trio...

  22. 17' MVA Aspar Aprilia's Bautista on the medium compound tyres chased still by Gilera rider Simoncelli, on the softs.

  23. 19' Takahashi almost loses his bike, having a bit of a wobble... the sparks fly, but he remains upright and keeps in the hunt for third.

  24. 20' Simoncelli right on Bautista's backside. Hector Barbera, Simon and Yuki Takahashi are behind Kallio.

  25. 21' Kallio in third separating himself from those behind him. 1.8 seconds the gap between Simoncelli and the flying Finn.

  26. 22' The front pair already pulling away from the chasing pack.

  27. 23' Marco Simoncelli into second - he has fought his way up from ninth on the grid!!! And Bautista continues his surge by taking the lead!

  28. 24' Hector Faubel, team-mate to Bautista, is off into the gravel and holding his wrist!!

  29. 25' Bautista aggressive on the inside, forcing Simon wide - and he is up into third...

  30. 26' Bautista also struggling from the start - he is down to fourth, with Mika Kallio taking over in first and Thomas Luthi ahead of Julian Simon in second.

  31. 26' Alex Debon with a terrible start from third on the front row...

  32. 26' The race begins - 26 laps this one!!

  33. - The riders are on their warm-up lap... Alvaro Bautista on pole.

  34. - Welcome to the 250cc class at Jerez, the second race of the 2008 season.
