Live Commentary

  1. 0' AND ROSSI CRUISES HOME!! What a performance from the Italian. The crowd are pouring onto the track and you can be sure they'll be quite a heady evening ahead after this result. Stoner gets second, and Pedrosa comes home third.

  2. 1' Last lap! For Rossi at least. He's absolutely smashed it here, the field have been blown away. This will be his ninth win in Mugello. Toseland is still in sixth.

  3. 3' De Angelis is gaining ground on Pedrosa in third, and could yet manage a podium finish. Rossi's lead is now getting ridiculous.

  4. 6' The gap between Pedrosa n third and Alex de Angelis in fourth is verging on five seconds.

  5. 9' Nine laps to go, and Rossi leads by a massive margin. Stoner is in second now, with Pedrosa in third.

  6. 10' Rossi's lead is now over two seconds. Phenomenal stuff from the local boy. Surely only a crash will deny him the win.

  7. 12' TOSELAND IS BURNING THEM UP!!! He takes Dovizioso and moves into sixth. It's all too easy for Rossi, his lead is widening by the lap.

  8. 13' Stoner made a mistake, he went too wide and Pedrosa replaces him in second. Toseland is now into sixth.

  9. 15' Rossi is running really well, he's almost a second ahead now. The Italian just lapped in around 1:50.2.

  10. 18' Marco Melandri crashes into Randy de Puniet, and both drivers are out!!

  11. 20' Rossi now has the lead, he's 0.350 ahead of Stoner in second. Fantastic stuff in Italy. Toseland is going well, up into seventh and a couple of neat takes.

  12. 21' Andrea Dovizioso is up to fifth, great riding from the Italian. ROSSI INTO SECOND!!

  13. 22' Up to 205mph as they finish the first lap. Stoner takes the lead, from Pedrosa and then Rossi.

  14. 23' AND WE'RE OFF!!!! Pedrosa blasts past Rossi at the start, as does Casey Stoner. Rossi is back in fourth.

  15. - The warm-up lap is under way. What an atmosphere in Italy, the crowds are shoe-horned in, with flags waving and loud cheers greeting every rider. Rossi predictably gets the biggest cheer.

  16. - Home favourite Valentino Rossi will start on pole, with Dani Pedrosa and Loris Capirossi completing the front row on the grid. Britain's James Toseland qualified in eighth. The conditions and dry and fast, and we're set for a humdinger of a race.
