Live Commentary

  1. 0' Simoncelli takes his first win, but there's more than a hint of controversy. Barbera was travelling in a straight line, and Simoncelli cut across him. We might not have heard the end of this one. Meanwhile, it's onto the main event!

  2. 0' And SIMONCELLI WINS THE ITALIAN GRAND PRIX!!!! Debon is second, with Thomas Luthi in third.

  3. 1' BARBERA GOES DOWN!!! WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT!!!! SIMONCELLI IS CLEAR TO WIN THE RACE. BARBARA JUST CLIPPED THE BACK OF SIMONCELLI'S BIKE AND SPUN OUT.

  4. 2' Coming towards the creschendo now, Simoncelli lurking ominously but Barbera has been faultless so far.

  5. 3' Barbera leading from Simoncelli. The pair are sparring right now. They're out of reach, and unless both crash they're assured of the top two spots.

  6. 4' Yuki Takahashi is out. He rode until his bike gave up on him! Gutsy effort.

  7. 7' Alex Debon is up into third. Simoncelli is 0.6 ahead of Barbera at the front.

  8. 9' Simoncelli back ahead. He and Barbera are over three seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

  9. 11' Manuel Poggiali and Lukas Pesek join the casualties. Both spun off at the same corner. Hector Faubel is also out, joining his team-mate Bautista for an early bath.

  10. 11' Barbera is into the lead, he rode in Simoncelli's slipstream and powered past him.

  11. 12' The track temperature is 33 degrees, and the sun is shining in Italy. It's dry and fast.

  12. 14' Simoncelli now has the lead before his home crowd.

  13. 15' BAUTISTA IS OUT!!!!! He's spun off and his hopes are dashed!! So much for an uneventful race!!

  14. 17' Fairly uneventful thus far. The front three are over two seconds ahead, and appear to have settled in. This race has all the signs of a slow burner, with a frantic finish to follow.

  15. 18' Quite a sizeable gap has already developed between the leading trio and the rest of the pack.

  16. 18' Half a second between the leading three. Barbera lapped in 1:52.8, making him the fastest. But he remains in third.

  17. 21' Bautista and Marco Simoncelli are out in front, with Barbera back in third.

  18. 21' And we're away! Barbera blasts from the blocks, but Alvaro Bautista takes him on the outside.

  19. - Hector Barbera is on pole for this one. And we're almost ready to go...

  20. - Good morning and welcome to our LIVE!! coverage of the 250cc race in Mugello. We had a cracker in the 125cc class, which can only bode well. We'll be under way shortly.
