What a ride from Pedrosa, he was so dominant throughout. He never looked like being caught. Huge credit as usual to Rossi, who rode with real determination claw his way onto the podium.
0/25
PEDROSA TAKES IT, with Rossi in second, Stoner in third and Dovizioso in fourth. Colin Edwards bags fifth and Toseland gets sixth.
1/25 Last lap and Pedrosa can coast home here. He's been superb. Toseland still in sixth.
2/25 Rossi gets the crowd on their feet and somehow he's got within four seconds of Pedrosa. Too little, too late, but what fightback from the Italian.
4/25 The gap between Rossi and Stoner is very small indeed. Meanwhile, we're hearing Rossi is very close to signing a further two-year deal at Yamaha.
5/25
Stoner picks Rossi's pocket to go into second.
6/25 Toseland in seventh, a quite ludicrous 18 seconds behind the leader.
8/25 Dovizioso is 1.16 down on Rossi in third. Finally, signs that Pedrosa's lead is falling. With almost eight seconds in hand, however, he could probably afford to stop for a pint of milk and the Sunday newspapers and still win this race.
9/25 Rossi is 7.6 down on Pedrosa, with Stoner right on his tail. This could prove the afternoon's most interesting duel.
11/25 Toseland up to seventh, good work from the twinkle-fingered one. There are only 13 riders left out there, so it's points all round - just a question of how many you fancy. Come on James, go for the podium my son!!!
12/25 Pedrosa's lead is becoming ridiculous now. He really should slow up and let the others catch him for the sake of entertainment.
14/25
There's not a stroppy sulk icon - but if there was it would be used liberally right now. Randy de Puniet's bike gives up on him and he does a rather entertaining impression of a toddler throwing a tantrum.
15/25
Alex De Angelis is down and out. So too is Loris Capirossi, it's not clear if the two combined for each others' downfall.
16/25 Rossi is up into second after some rapid stuff, but there's a gap of over seven seconds between the Italian and race leader (winner, if he doesn't crash) Pedrosa.
18/25 Stoner goes way too wide and loses his second spot to Dovizioso. That was an error from the Australian.
19/25 Pedrosa's lead is over three seconds. Rossi into fifth, and Toseland now back in 10th.
20/25 There's talk of rain 30 miles away, and clouds are gathering. Pedrosa is out on his own and looking very smooth indeed. Rossi's in sixth and giving it some real hammer.
23/25 Stoner is up into second, with Andrea Dovizioso in third. Toseland down to ninth, and Rossi is steadily rising through the pack - who saw that coming?
24/25 What a start for Pedrosa, he's opened a lead already. Toseland is in seventh, Rossi in eighth.
25/25
AND THEY'RE OFF!!! Rossi has a terrible start, and Pedrosa takes an early lead in Spain.
- Casey Stoner is on pole, with Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden completing the front row. That man Valentino Rossi is in ninth, with piano-playing bike-riding super-Brit James Toseland in sixth. Experts are predicting this race could be a classic...who am I to argue? The warm-up lap is under way.

Good afternoon race fans! It's almost time for the main attraction in Barcelona, the big old beasts with the 500cc engines. Yep, it's Rossi time!! Helmet news to follow.
