Live Comments

  1. 58/58 - So the championship fight intensifies. The final five race are going to be nothing if not exiting. Log on again for LIVE coverage from the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in two weeks time.

  2. 58/58 - Third and fourth for Alonso and Heifeld. And Hamilton gets fifth by just half a second from Kovalainen.

  3. 58/58 - MASSA WINS. A great drive. Raikkonen completes the Ferrari one-two and that's Massa's fifth win.

  4. 58/58 - Final lap.

  5. 57/58 - The order looks pretty settled now.

  6. 55/58 - Fastest lap for Raikkonen. 1:22.2 is miles quicker than Massa's previous lap.

  7. 54/58 - Make that 1.9 seconds. Hamilton ought to have enough to keep him at bay though.

  8. 52/58 - Kovalainen is continuing to close in on Hamilton. It's just 2.6 seconds between the pair now.

  9. 50/58 - Kovalainen has a race on his hands now with Hamilton. He reduces the gap to 3.5 seconds.

  10. 49/58 - At the front Massa's lead is now over three seconds. He looks good for victory with ten laps to go.

  11. 48/58 - Maybe he's lost some parts of his front wing and his barge board. That would account for the time loss. He's got to be careful though. He's only 3.9 seconds ahead of Heikki Kovalainen and losing around six tenths of a second per lap.

  12. 47/58 - Hamilton is falling back from Heidfeld. He has lost six tenths in the last two laps. Not what he needs.

  13. 46/58 - Hamilton has dropped behind Heidfeld with that and is now fifth.

  14. 45/58 - Alonso pits and exits as Hamilton comes in. A routine stop-ish and his tyre is replaced. Amazingly there was no damage to his front wing or suspension, not that we saw anyway. It blew as he began braking for turn nine.

  15. 44/58 - HAMILTON'S RIGHT FRONT TYRE HAS A PUNCTURE. The rubber is flaling about everywhere. Can he get back to the pits safely?

  16. 43/58 - Clean stop, 6.9 seconds....... MASSA MAINTAINS STATION BY OVER A SECOND FROM RAIKKONEN. The McLarens are now one and two and with a fair bit of fuel to burn off before stopping.

  17. 42/58 - Is Massa coming in? YES HE DOES.

  18. 41/58 - Here's Raikkonen from second. Seven seconds on goes a new set of hard tyres. He exits the pits into a fair bit of traffic though. It's worth noting that he missed his pit stall by a good half a metre too.

  19. 40/58 - What is going on in the Ferrari pit?

  20. 39/58 - Both Ferraris go past the pits despite the crew being ready to recieve one of them.

  21. 38/58 - MASSA LOCKS UP IN THE COMPLEX AND SLIDES WIDE!!!!! THIS IS RAIKKONEN'S CHANCE!!!! But Massa re-asserts himself on the line and denies his team-mate the chance to dive inside him.

  22. 37/58 - RAIKKONEN IS RIGHT ON MASSA'S TAIL!!!!! EITHER OF THESE CAN WIN THIS RACE NOW. It's the third lap in a row where he's taken over four tenths out of the Brazilian.

  23. 35/58 - Hamilton has had a bad few laps. He looks to be done as far as a victory challenge is concerned and is now 7.4 seconds off the lead.

  24. 33/58 - Jenson Button is the first man to make his final pit stop. He had got as high as 12th in the race.

  25. 31/58 - The pace has fallen by around a second from Massa's fastest at set at the 19th time of asking.

  26. 30/58 - The Ferraris are still line astern at the front, separated by about 1.2 seconds.

  27. 28/58 - If things stay the way they are right now we will have Hamilton extending his championship lead to eight points with five races to go. Massa and Raikkonen will close up to 17 and 18 points behind him.

  28. 26/58 - Alonso in fourth is not closing in on the leaders. Quite the opposite in fact. He's losing about four tenths per lap and is now almost 20 seconds off the lead.

  29. 24/58 - It does seem to have closed up at the front. Hamilton has closed to within four seconds of Massa now. This makes the race to the second stops very interesting indeed.

  30. 22/58 - Kovalainen pits from the lead and resumes the race in front of Kubica. So the Pole is the net loser from this first round of stops. He had been fourth but has been passed by Heidfeld, Alonso and now the Renault driver.

  31. 21/58 - Heikki Kovalainen is now leading the race, but only because he has yet to stop.

  32. 20/58 - Hamilton pits from the lead. 9.4 seconds is his stop and he puts more hard tyres on. It does look like he's closed in on both of them though.

  33. 20/58 - Mark Webber confirms his retirement was caused by a hydraulics failure.

  34. 19/58 - MASSA PITS FROM THE LEAD. 8.7 is identical to Raikkonen. And he gets out in front of his team-mate.

  35. 18/58 - Raikkonen stops from second. 8.7 seconds gets him back out. Alonso pits too. HE EXITS IN FRONT OF HEIDFELD. THAT'S TWO PLACES MADE UP BY THE MCLAREN MAN.

  36. 17/58 - Heidfeld pits from fourth. 8.8 seconds gets him out ahead of team-mate Kubica. Nice job from Nick's crew, but Alonso will have to use this chance to nail him.

  37. 16/58 - Button grabs the bragging rights at Honda. He goes by Rubens Barrichello for 15th at turn one.

  38. 15/58 - Fastest lap for Raikkonen. He really wants to beat his team-mate today and he'll have to put in a few more of them to do so.

  39. 14/58 - The top three are all lapping in the 1:28.3s. Massa is fractionally the quickest and puts in the fastest lap of the race.

  40. 13/58 - Kubica is the first man to pit. He loses his fourth place and exits the pits in 11th. That moves Alonso up to fifth.

  41. 12/58 - Trulli and Button are having a right battle. Trulli almost half spins at the final complex and loses the place back to the Brit.

  42. 11/58 - Finally Alonso is starting to pressure Heidfeld. He needs to as well. He's over 11 seconds adrift of leader Massa.

  43. 10/58 - Here's why. Webber pits and he's out of the race. The fuel flap is not opening and in previous races that has meant a hydraulic failure. He's the first retirement.

  44. 8/58 - Mark Webber slides very wide exiting turn three... Wurz says thank you very much and accepts tenth place with glee.

  45. 7/58 - Massa's lead over Raikkonen is a steady second, but Hamilton has dropped back to 3.5 seconds behind.

  46. 6/58 - Kovalainen and Rosberg are nose to tail in the battle for seventh. It's a great battle for the drivers who went head-to head for the GP2 title in 2005.

  47. 5/58 - Trulli is recovering after his earlier spin. He goes past Button for 17th place at turn three.

  48. 4/58 - Alonso isn't putting Heidfeld under much pressure at the moment. My guess is his tyres are not cutting the mustard just yet.

  49. 3/58 - ALONSO HAS A HUGE MOMENT AT TURN ONE. He gets all over the kerbs as he continues to chase the BMWs.

  50. 2/58 - Over the line for the first time and it's Massa, Raikkonen, Hamilton, Kubica, Heidfeld and Alonso dropping back all the way to sixth after a poor start.

  51. 1/58 - Great start by Massa... RAIKKONEN PASSES HAMILTON FOR SECOND...And Trulli has spun in midfield, putting Sato off the track too.

  52. 1/58 - We're off!!!!!!!!

  53. 0/58 - The lights are on....

  54. 0/58 - We're on the grid....

  55. 0/58 - Both Ferraris are starting on the soft tyres while the McLarens are on the hards.

  56. 0/58 - Lewis Hamilton ought to be nervous. In both GP2 races held here in the last 24 hours the third place qualifier has passed the second into turn one. Can Lewis stop it becoming three in a row?

  57. 0/58 - The formation lap is underway...

  58. 12:55 - Just five minutes now. The celebrities like Bo Derek and Roberto Carlos have cleared the grid. It's just men and machines now.

  59. 12:45 - 15 minutes to go before the start and the grid is already buzzing.

  60. 10:30 - The first significant piece of news this morning is that Honda have changed Rubens Barrichello's engine, meaning he will move back to 21st on the grid, joining Jenson Button on the back row after he too suffered the same penalty.

  61. 09:00 - We'll be racing from 13:00 UK time with Felipe Massa heading the field away from his fifth pole position of the season.

  62. 09:00 - Good morning and welcome to LIVE coverage of the Turkish Grand Prix from Istanbul Park.
