Live Commentary

  1. 00:00 And that, as they say, is that. Rosberg is fastest, followed by Raikkonen and then Hamilton. Fellow Brits David Coulthard and Jenson Button finish in 13th and 19th respectively.

  2. 05:00 Winding down now, and it doesn't look as though anybody will trump Rosberg's time.

  3. 07:35 SQUIRREL ON THE TRACK!!! What a wilderness this Montreal track is proving to be. First the beaver - returning for a second look after his cameo last year - and now a squirrel. An aborted attempt to cross the track ensued, before the nut gatherer decided best to return to the stands for a pint of lager in a souvenir cup.

  4. 10:00 Good and bad news for fans of British F1 drivers!! Hamilton is getting quicker. He's into third now, less than 0.2 behind Massa. Jenson Button, however, is in 20th, lapping like he's driving a milk float.

  5. 15:02 Sebastian Vettel's car falls to pieces like a Fiesta Bonus owned by the author of these comments. Two wheels fall off and the poor Frenchman needs a taxi. Meanwhile, Felipe Massa is fourth best, 0.2 or so behind Rosberg.

  6. 21:14 Hamilton back in 11th, but he's giving it a right good go this time round - up to 318kmh on the straight.

  7. 25:36 Lewis Hamilton is having a subdued practice so far, he's down in eighth with a time of 1:17.525

  8. 33:40 Nico Rosberg is burning it up at 283kmh on this quick, dry track and completes a circuit in 1:16.555

  9. 35:00 Raikkonen goes faster, lapping in 1:16.785.

  10. 39:30 Robert Kubica, of BMW Sauber, is the new pacesetter with a time of 1:17.589. Kimi Raikkonen is next quickest.

  11. 43:37 Nick Heidfield sets the first meaningful time, lapping in 1:18.512. Giancarlo Fisichella is not far behind.

  12. 50:00 BEAVER ON THE TRACK!! Well almost, he popped onto the gravel and disappeared under the hoardings. Meanwhile, Adrian Sutil has set the fastest split for the first section of the track, with 30.4.

  13. 52:21 Fernando Alonso's car is having some serious work done - looks a little like a kit car with half the kit missing. He's welcome to borrow my Toyota Corolla is he needs to.
