Heidfeld comes in second, with Barrichello in third. We now have a three-way tie for the lead at the top of the championship, between Massa, Hamilton and Raikkonen. Thanks for joining me!!
0/60
HAMILTON WINS THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX!! A stunning drive from the McLaren man, and a thoroughly deserved victory. The wet conditions didn't phase him and he drove as if the track was bone dry throughout.
1/60 Final lap!! And Hamilton is getting a huge ovation...what a performance from the Briton.
3/60
Kovalainen takes Alonso to move into fifth. Hamilton is taking it nice and easy - sensible stuff.
4/60 Hamilton's lead is over a minute from Heidfeld, with Barrichello in third and Raikkonen holding on to fourth.
5/60 Nakajima is up into seventh, right on Kovalainen's tail. It's been another fine drive from the Williams man, up from 15th on the grid.
8/60 If we finish as we are now, Hamilton will be tied with Massa at the top of the championship on 48 points.
10/60 Hamilton laps Kovalainen and it's all too easy for the Briton right now. This would be his first British Grand Prix victory.
13/60 HAMILTON LEADS BY OVER A MINUTE!! Meanwhile, Massa spins YET AGAIN. What a disastrous day it's been for the championship leader.
14/60 Barrichello in and out of the pits and he's surely on for a podium finish for Honda.
16/60 The weather is holding, and this race is Hamilton's to lose. Jarno Trulli is up into fourth, ahead of Alonso in fifth and Kovalainen in six. Raikkonen is now in seventh.
19/60
BUTTON IS OUT! It appears to be a technical problem. Hamilton's lead is now close to 40 seconds.
20/60
KUBICA SLIDES OUT OF THE RACE!!! The championship contenders are falling away. What a chance for Hamilton to take advantage.
21/60 Hamilton leads by over 30 seconds from Heidfeld in second, and only a mistake or a turn in the weather will stop him now. Barrichello, on full wets, is lapping far quicker than anybody else in the field.
22/60
A hint of sunshine bursts through. If the rain holds then Hamilton's tyres will see him home. If not, he could well see his lead eaten up and need to pit a third time.
23/60 McLaren are preparing to put new tires on Hamilton's car - the decision is whether to go with full wets or not. But they choose intermediates. What a brave call, but will it come back to haunt him.
25/60 Rubens Barrichello has a disaster in the pits and takes an age to emerge. Button was waiting behind, and he suffers as a result. Nelson Piquet Jnr is OUT OF THE RACE!!! He skids off onto the mud. HAMILTON HAS A LUCKY ESCAPE!!! He's sliding around on the grass, but finds his way back.
27/60 Robert Kubica is hovering on Kovalainen's tail, and he takes him on the straight with ease. The rain is seriously pelting down now.
29/60 We're past the halfway point now, and Hamilton is looking very comfortable indeed. Alonso is another to have lost time due through not changing tires. He's down in sixth.
32/60 Hamilton has slowed slightly, but his lead is still a mammoth 23 seconds - time to pick up a ginsters slice and a lucozade and still hold his advantage.
35/60 Well well, Ferrari appear to have made a serious blunder in not changing Raikkonen's tires and he's losing ground on Hamilton and will surely need to pit again.
36/60
Nick Heidfeld takes Alonso with a lovely piece of driving and moves into third. He's having quite a race here. Hamilton finally begins to respond, and his lead gets back around four seconds.
39/60 Hamilton and Raikkonen pit together, and HAMILTON MAINTAINS HIS LEAD!! Great work from the McLaren team.
41/60 Kovalainen into the pits and he changes tires. Alonso elects to keep his intermediates on his stop however.
42/60
Raikkonen laps a whole second faster than Hamilton and continues to eat away at his lead. Fernando Alonso is in fourth, as the rain begins to sprinkle down.
44/60 Massa is fighting his way back, and he's into 16th. Hamilton is resisting Kimi's advances for the time being, but he's still slower.
46/60 Hamilton's lead is falling, with Raikkonen going quicker these past few laps. He's knocked a second off and the two are surely heading for another showdown here.
49/60
Adrian Sutil spins violently off the track and his race is over. Hamilton's lead is now over five seconds. Webber's remarkable recovery has now taken him up to 11th - he'll take on Button next, but the Briton is going strongly and won't concede lightly.
51/60 Jenson Button is in 11th and going well. Webber is making a decent recovery, taking Kazuki Nakajima to move up into 12th.
54/60 Hamilton is opening the gap here. Kovalainen is second, with Raikkonen third. There's a long way to go, but it's looking good.
55/60
HAMILTON INTO THE LEAD!!! And within no time he puts almost two seconds between himself and the rest of the field. The rain is holding right now, but surely it's a matter of time.
57/60 Kimi Raikkonen is going well in third, while Massa SPINS AGAIN!! The championship leader is having a bad day at the office.
58/60 Hamilton is going at Kovalainen, and giving it everything. What a fantastic start to the race. Webber is down in 18th, after his mishap on lap one.
59/60
David Coulthard, in his last British GP, has spun onto the gravel and his race is over.
60/60
Disaster for Webber, who spins on the first lap! Kovalainen leads. FELIPE MASSA IS NEXT TO SPIN!! He's turned round.
60/60
AND WE'RE OFF!!! GREAT START FROM LEWIS HAMILTON, who blasts away and get himself straight up into second.
- Out they go the practice lap and it's intermediate tires all round. Water sprays up behind the cars as they warm these F1 beasts up. Mark Webber is second on the grid - what a day this could be for Red Bull.
-
The big issue will be tires. Clouds hover ominously overhead and rain is almost guaranteed. Heikki Kovalainen is on pole, and he says the track is very slippy indeed.
- Good afternoon race fans! Welcome to our LIVE!! coverage of the British Grand Prix from a rather grey and rainy Silverstone. Engines at the ready...
